plush toy label requirements

Does anyone know- am I correct in thinking that since I make my stuffed toys one at a time, for a batch # on my labels I would just put "1/1" or "1 of 1" ?

Re: plush toy label requirements

i really don't think that batch numbers apply to one of a kind... but, i took some time out of sewing to make new labels for my plushies today.

you need to include:

- business name
- location
- new or used materials declaration
- hidden materials

and if you have tags attached with plastic, make sure to include warnings to remove them labels, and the crib warning.

if you use pellets, age warnings...

i think that's it.

Re: plush toy label requirements

I have know for 20 years that in Ohio you must have the correct tags on the stuffed animals that you sell. Whether or not if you make them or buy them wholesale, all due to china using substandard fillers.

Thanks Stacey :) Yeah, I'm not sure if mine are considered one of a kind, I'll make one then if it sells I may make another, etc. I'm getting ready to make some new ones myself (tags, that is.)

Re: plush toy label requirements

I'm making my labels with the lot number being the date plus what number it is for the day (eg. 020609-1, 020609-2) an ultra thin sharpie marker seems to work well for this...

Re: plush toy label requirements

i have to admit, i didn't know i was supposed to include hidden materials. but, my tags have always had my name and location.

and crib warnings... tag removal. when i was attaching them.

i got a little lax, at some point. would run out of them, and not have the stuff to make more.

but, i restocked, and i'm getting the ducks in a row.

Re: plush toy label requirements

When you say location you mean like "made in USA" right? I have been saying the contents on mine but not specifying which parts are what. I'll make sure to say "polyester filling."

Re: plush toy label requirements

Besides Ohio, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts also have stuffed toy licensing requirements if you plan to sell stuffed toys in those states.

"Made in USA" can only be used when every component of the product has been manufactured in the USA, otherwise the label must state "Made in USA with Imported Materials."

Re: plush toy label requirements

i looked at a whole bunch of my own plushies, that i collect and leave the tags on, and they all say the city, state and country of the origin of the toy.

so, i put "Handcrafted in San Diego, CA, USA" on mine.

some of them had the zip codes of their exact location.

Re: plush toy label requirements

actually: "Hand crafted in San Diego, CA. USA."

and since i sometimes use wool felt, i included a "may contain wool" warning.

Re: plush toy label requirements

Can anyone tell me if these tags are supposed to be sewn into the plushie or can they be attached by a string or something? I really do not want giant tags on my stuff. What all is supposed to be on them also?
