maybe I am an poop head... BUT...what about adding a "warning label"

I admit I have not kept up with this topic as much as I should, but, from what I HAVE read and what I DO know about LAW, I find it hard to believe that anyone could be convicted if they were to place a "warning label" or a disclaimer stating that the item they are selling is "not intended for the use of/or/by children"

I hate to see ETSY shops closing... and I hate to see that the government is attempting to OVER-regulate something that is already so strongly regulated.

It isn't like you are handing a child a chip of lead based paint and telling them to chew on it. There HAS to be some sort of parental supervision... I say, until they reverse this, buck the system and just state that your items are "not meant for the use/wear of children" - aka... have fun using them on your "dolls"...

Many people are aware of what is going on, and those that are not, well, they need to be informed! So add the new "LAWS" to your shop policy and explain that you cannot sell things for children due to the new "LAWS"... but if they want to purchase them for their "dolls" than they are more than welcome to do so...

Personally, I think if we get enough people to "buck" the system, then things will change. Don't give in and don't give up and lastly DON'T close your shop...

People selling goods for children in ETSY are not criminals... In fact, I would rather purchase an item here than from some chain store like TOY'S R US... the government needs to know that we are NOT the enemy... we are here to promote our economy through hand made crafts and goods - we crafters are VITAL to our economy!

With that said, I would gladly purchase from a fellow ETSY memeber over that of a chain store, because we DO know that we have a strong community that cares!!!
(and let's make our voices heard!!!- even though I do produce items for children, I am 100% on your side!!!)

Godspeed!
Theresa

Re: maybe I am an poop head... BUT...what about adding a "warning label"

I have some items (eg cloth menstrual pads) which potentially might be used by girls under 12, but I am listing them as intended for over 12...what people do with them after they buy them is their business.

Unfortunately, I also sell cloth diapers, and I dont' see how I can say I'm listing them 'for over 12' cuz, um, they are diapers, you know? Bibs and blankets and little toys, maybe, but I genuinely cant' imagine someone paying $15 for a 'doll' diaper...

I do not sell children's related items, but I am 100% behind you guys all the way.

With that said, I am assuming all steps have been taken to ensure safety first when you are creating your items.

the law was very carefully written so that a disclaimer or warning tag would NOT protect the maker or seller.

The law also points out that you MUST include a warning label outlining any potential hazards or harms associated with your item.
