Okay, so Mattel is going to be testing its stuff in its own labs? How exactly is that different than what was supposedly happening before this whole CPSIA fiasco when toys came from overseas manufacturing facilities that made stuff for big companies like Mattel?

Sigh....

Re: latest from the cpsc on CPSIA

ptoooey. That just leaves a bad taste in my mouth... Just because they put words down on paper saying the labs owned by the manufacturer have to treat their own products in an unbiased manner, does not mean that will actually happen. Frankly I think any lab that is owned by a toy manufacturer should be prohibited from testing products from their parent company.

Oh, and I bet you, for Mattel to use their own labs for testing, they won't be paying NEARLY as much money *cough*prolly-nuthin*cough* as it does for joe-schmoe to test a product anywhere else... I call shenanigans!

Have to agree with you on that PCharming. The law states that testing must be done by a third party independant testing lab. So I do not think that Mattel can do this legally. But, hey they are the reason we are in this mess anyways.

Gee, what a surprise! The commission is certifying third party independent labs owned by Mattel. And who is saying that the big companies do not have a direct hand in this law?

If you read that a little closer, I don't believe it was accepted. It is way too premature to look at that piece of paper and draw any conclusions, for anything, in my opinion. We are all so "deperate for answers" that we are drawing at straws. Patience, confidence, we must retain these.

The big manufacturers are going to want to protect themselves on the testing end, too. That is their right. We should see a lot of this type of thing before this is over. They are in business. We need to focus on handmade and what is good for our community.
