There is so much confusion and conflicting information here and everywhere about the CPSIA. Its causing a lot of etsy shops to shut down and real heartache. Surely etsy makes enough money on these products to hire a lawyer to figure out exactly what is involve here and to lobby for appropriate changes if it is as bad as it seems.
Help us out! There is very little real info from admin. Does EVERYTHING for people under 12 really need testing? Is anything exempt? Can we sell current stock after Feb 10? If our materials are certified will the end product need certification? etc.

Re: is etsy doing enough about the CPSIA?

I'm wondering also, why are the dyes in fabric bad for children, yet o.k. if one is 12 or older?

....Gee,thanks Mr.Bush-you can thank him for almost every financial woe of the US

In the Senate there were only three "nay" votes. All three of those voting against this dog were Republicans.

Re: is etsy doing enough about the CPSIA?

Exactly! Like why can't the testing be on the yarn companies, for example, and then all one would need to show is that they use a tested yarn.
Without actually reading the bill it sounds like a good idea. I want large companies to test their products and am happy to pay more for them to know that they are safe for everyone including the planet.
But you have to dig deeper to understand the implications or have someone spell it out for you. And that is what I fear was lacking in the presentation of this bill.

we, at least i pay etsy a lot of money. they make plenty from those of us that produce childrens items. with what they make from us they can afford to hire a lawyer, we cannot. i think that it most certainly is their role. do they not work for us?

I may have an unpopular opinion, but I don't think Etsy "works for us" in any form. They are just a venue where we can set up shop. Yes, we pay fees, and they provide us with a storefront for those fees. That's where it ends, really.

Re: is etsy doing enough about the CPSIA?

Thanks Laurie!

I don't sell children's products, so this doesn't affect me directly.

But every time another freedom is stolen we're ALL impacted.

Re: is etsy doing enough about the CPSIA?

The one thing I think people are wondering that etsy could respond to is this:
What, if anything, it etsy going to do to police the listings for childrens things? That has been asked by a lot of people. So far etsy has just posted the TOU. They haven't said if they're actually going to do anything about listings.

Re: is etsy doing enough about the CPSIA?

Etsy's TOS states that every seller is responsible for abiding by their own state/country's laws...I don't think they will be policing the site in any way--it's up to the individual sellers to abide by the law governing where they live.

Re: is etsy doing enough about the CPSIA?

have you tried to read it? its so confusing itself and it is worded so badly that anyone can make something out of it that it isn't. say photographs, why would photographs be included? but it makes it sound like it is

Re: is etsy doing enough about the CPSIA?

The manufacturers of the supplies or the large companies buying the supplies overseas are the ones who should be testing, not the smaller companies who buy them. This makes no sense to me and will put so many small companies out of business. How is this helping our country? It's just ridiculous.

I didn't see anything about photos, Laurie--can you copy and paste the part about that here? I'm curious to see it.

Re: is etsy doing enough about the CPSIA?

I haven't been able to read the darn thing I was told it was but then someone else said it wasn't that is why I am leaving my shop alone. there is no way I'm going to be able to sit here and read 62 pages of legle double talk it just isn't going to happen. so no I can't copy and paste that part as I never read it just was repeating what someone had told me that they had read. see how bad this law is written you can take part of it and make it out to what ever you want?

____
yes, but you would think they would want to protect such a significant portion of their business.
