i received a message asking if my items are CPSIA approved?

I make stuffed animals, and I have been making them child friendly, but I guess there is a new law that requires them to be checked? What do I have to do to be legal about selling child friendly stuffed animals? Do I just have to follow a checklist or actually register my items legally?

Thank you!

If you're using plastic safety eyes, they need to be tested foe lead and phthalates, and your items need labels. Read through the team threads, the law has been in effect for a long time.

I love that customers are asking for this information. But I agree read through the threads. The "EVERYTHING" thread has just about everything you'd want to know.

And the law was passed in 2008., We've had a forum since 2009.

And CPSIA will not "approve" your products. That implies that the government has given your toys a seal of approval. Won't happen.

You will need to check with your state as some states have stuffed toy registration numbers you have to apply for and your toys must be sent for testing for sturdiness and stuffing examination.

After you learn what you need to know, register as a small batch manufacturer, have your tracking labels, and you have all your necessary "ducks in a row". you can say that you produce CPSIA compliant stuffed toys.

So I have to do that otherwise I shouldn't post my items as "child friendly"? I could still sell them without having to do all this if I don't claim them to be child friendly, yes?

Won't work, They look like baby toys, you've advertised them as baby and child friendly. You've sold them as such. They would be considered by the majority of people as baby /child toys, therefore, they are children's products. The law applies. You can't call a car a horse, because you don't want to get a driver's license or register the car. It's still a car. and nothing will change that.
