how are you printing labels?

QUick question- what are you doing for labels? I ask this because I COULD buy custom labels from someone on etsy, however, then I wouldn't have the correct date on each one. Each label I need is slightly different (date, material %, and I like to include the size but I don't have to). So...what do you do? I can't find printable fabric sheets anywhere and I heard they bleed in the wash anyway.

Re: how are you printing labels?

Well I would LOVE to buy labels from someone on etsy, but it just wouldn't work since each item needs a different date of manufacture :(

Re: how are you printing labels?

AJoyfullVision. I buy my labels from JennifersJewels here on Etsy. I have unique handmade baby items and each item I only make 2 or so of each. I buy my labels from her and she leaves the DOM (date of manufacture) and the batch # blank. I went to staples and invested less than $24 in a stamp set that you can type set it yourself and bought an archival ink pad from michaels ($10-but I had a coupon so it was only $6). It's a huge ink pad and is waterproof. Although the investment was around $75 initially, can you really afford that multi thousand dollar fine if you aren't compliant? It has been the best thing for me, super easy to stamp the date and batch # and to keep track of it and JennifersJewels has kept me in business.

Re: how are you printing labels?

I've beenusing the printable fabric sheets since I foudn this tutorial that showed how easy it was to do. http://allysonhill.typepad.com/allyson_hill/2007/06/make_your_own_l.html

Have you tried to find them online? I did a google search for "photofabric" (the stuff that I buy). It looks like Amazon was the cheepes place to get it.

Good Luck.

Re: how are you printing labels?

I buy mine from Avlor, also on Etsy. She leaves the DOM blank, and I just write it in with a Sharpie. I can't use iron-ons, so these are particularly good for me.

Re: how are you printing labels?

I used to make fabric goods and made my own labels from the printable, iron on transfer stuff. Probably HP brand. You can just zip it through your home printer and it worked really well for me.

Good luck!

Re: how are you printing labels?

We print a no fade and no fray cotton printed label for many of our etsy clients. We leave a blank line for you to fill in your materials and another for your DOM. The print your own fabric sheets will fade and fray when they are washed and this seems to be a good solution for many of our customers - happy to help with any questions you might have!

Thanks,
Dianna

Re: how are you printing labels?

Hi all,
I've looked at the blog tutorial from the link above and done some searching at Walmart, Michael's, Target, and Hancock Fabrics and they all have various brands (including June Tailor, which was used in the tutorial) of Inkjet printable Sew-In Fabric Paper. So you do not have to buy the Twill tape or iron on, just print and sew in.

Thanks again for the wonderful info!
