do I have to include safety info for this item?

These are baby flashcards. It seems like common sense that you wouldn't want to leave your baby alone with these to chew up and choke on, but do I have to include that info ON or IN the packaging?

Hmmm... I would concerned about the chemicals in the laminating. Is the film phthalate free? Regardless, you will need to have the packaging labeled. I don't think these will be exempt from testing though.

Re: do I have to include safety info for this item?

Thanks lilli- yes, I wondered about the laminating. I've called the company and they are getting back to me. I've seen many other "flashcard" items on etsy using lamination. Is there a good place to go to see what the packaging should say (i.e. do not leave your child alone with this product, etc...?)
by the way I LOVE your little frocks and you have the perfect models for them too!

This thread has some good info about what must be on a compliant label:

Thanks much. This is my first product aimed directly at children, so it's all new to me.

Re: do I have to include safety info for this item?

Okay, well, you definately are going to have to have them tested. Laser printing is not the same as using an ink jet printer with CYMK ink which is exempt. Your ink falls under one set of rules, lead in paint, and your laminate is under another possibly 2. Total lead and phthalates. You'd better contact an approved 3rd party testing lab, which you can find by going to the CPSIA.gov website and looking for testing labs.

Re: do I have to include safety info for this item?

Here is the thing I see in searches and it drives me crazy...

I see shops who have things that need to be tested and/or are definitely not ok for baby items (swarovski crystal which have lead and/or things that have small parts for children under 3)

I see these shops put a big disclaimer about how "these things are a choking hazard to children and have not been tested but they buyer agrees not to hold the seller responsible"

WHAT?!!!!

I may be wrong but that is NOT how it works. You can't just put a disclaimer to not test and/or shops who KNOW they have something not ok (lead/choking hazard) can't do it anyhow and slap a disclaimer on it and say, "use at your own risk"

I think people get confused because i think it is ok to have a disclaimer that says "Note: not intended for use by children under 13"....but then it really has to be something that is not intended/marketed to children under 13.

OP not really directed toward you but I just don't want you to mistakenly fall into what I see so many shops doing... they think they are protecting themselves when they write these disclaimers for things they know/think are not allowed and they are not :)
