Wool exemption...

So I've read that for now, wool and other natural fibers could be exempted of testing for lead... Then let's say I make a pure wool toy, knitted and filled with wool stuffing... Do I have to do anything particular to be allowed to sell it to the US, or is it completly legal ?

Re: Wool exemption...

...Wow, that could be so great... So let's say I use only undyed wool... Do I need any paper, tag or certificate saying that it is only pure undyed wool or can I just ship it to the US and not worry about a thing ?

Re: Wool exemption...

I don't know if you need the tag- but it would be a good idea anyway. Your brown and beige is fantastic. lol! I was just thinking of when it's our only choice of colors.

Re: Wool exemption...

But looking at your shop - that means no buttons for eyes unless tested!

Re: Wool exemption...

Yeah I was just thinking about it... but I've done quite a few with embroided wool eyes until now (like the one in my avatar) so if it can allow me to keep selling to the US... I will!!!

Re: Wool exemption...

there haven't been any official exemptions yet. After watching the video of the apparrel/textile meeting I'm feeling really confident that all fabrics, including dyed fabrics, will end up exempt.

Re: Wool exemption...

That is the feeling I got too. I talked to Matt in the chat today about Hemp, and I may not need to submit it after I read this (see page 3, first column)

Re: Wool exemption...

Thanks for the link hempandmore, I think you're right! So are you just going to keep selling as usual or do you think we have to take any special measure to keep selling, once we use only natural material ?

Re: Wool exemption...

As long as your bear contains only pure undyed wool you are fine, but from your avatar pic, the facial features are made with dyed wool. So your bear would kind of be faceless :(
Hopefully after that big meeting they had with the textile industry, they've got some good info which shows that textiles don't contain lead. I don't think they will make the exemption for dyed textiles before the 2/10 deadline, but I am confident they will do it before August in some fashion.

Re: Wool exemption...

I'm not sure how this would work according to this law... BUT... when I first start out, I used kool aid to dye white wool roving...alot of people do..technically it's more of a stain than a dye..and you get more pastels than dark colors...now I use professional acid dyes for fiber because I like deep dark colors... but I just thought I throw this out in case you could use a food product like kool aid to dye your wool and still be free of testing?? :D

Re: Wool exemption...

oh yeah kool aid is fun to dye wool with. I think it'd be safe to use. (the kids got a kick out if dying with it)
