Instead of trying to pile all your info one a little label?
It's free.

Re: Why don't you get an RN number?

Yes, but a label can also be cute (and jammed with all the required information).

Re: Why don't you get an RN number?

"Yes, provided the name of a manufacturer or private labeler is also identified SO A CONSUMER WITHOUT ACCESS TO THE INTERNET can know whom to contact directly to also obtain the required information." (capital emphisis is mine & not part of the orginal governmental statement)

So how does the RN# alone satisfy for the CPSIA tracking label the name of the manufacturer without a consumer searching the database on the internet? Again if you where not a manufacturer yourself would you even know what a RN# stands for? As far as the CPSIA label is concerned you must have your business name and location somewhere on the product that the customer can just pick up a phone, dial information for the town listed and asked for the business phone # if they have a concern about the child's product. To the CPSIA it doesn't matter that we sold the item over the internet originally they want that if the consumer resells the item at a garage sale that the new owner has access to the same info that the original buyer did.

Re: Why don't you get an RN number?

Many manufacturers use rn #'s and have for YEARS. If you want to know more about it check out this site:

Re: Why don't you get an RN number?

Back to the OP question - why not just get an RN, even if you never, EVER put it on your labels? Seriously, it's about 10-15 minutes of your time to make your business more professional. You spend that much time just relisting stuff on Etsy - and that .20 per pop!

I applied online for my RN on a Sunday, and it was emailed to me Monday morning. It cost me $0

I always put my company name on my wearable labels - it's all about branding and marketing.

BTW - I have actually looked up RN numbers, just to find out which designers are making those clothes that Neiman Marcus claims are their own. ;-) But then I also subscribe to all the recall notices just to see which stores I don't want to shop in. (burlington? anyone?)

Thanks so much for this info, I'm confused by the bottom line though, how do we know what to write there ? I'm apparently having a dense moment

Re: Why don't you get an RN number?

I looked into this, I don't think I can because I am in Canada? Is there something equivalent up here?

Re: Why don't you get an RN number?

Why don't I have an RN#?

Because I don't need to. Nor do I want to.

I have a name, I have a company name. I can be found on the internet, and thru the telephone. I am reduced to a number by the government with my social security number. I am tracked by the bank, the IRS, SSA, and every other entity I do business with, or website I visit. I need to have an everychanging password to do anything!!!.

I have been putting FTC, size and company information labels on my items for umpteen years, long before CPSIA. So I don't think not having an RN# makes me less professional than someone who has one and doesn't even understand the use of FTC labels.
