Please welcome our newest member of the team, Neal Cohen, the CPSIA Small Business Ombudsman at the CPSC. I know some of you have already had questions answered by him thru the CPSC website. He, like everyone at the CPSC, has always been very helpful and friendly.

Neal will not be answering your direct questions thru the team threads, so if we can't answer your questions, you will need to write him directly or give him a call. He will be giving us links to information and presentations that he has given and will be giving in the future that will help us all.

Hi Neil. I am hoping you can explain why unsafe products from offshore are still being allowed to be sold to the American public. Do the regulations adopted only apply to American citizens, and overseas sellers can sell unsafe junk without repercussion? My example is a stuffed lion a customer sent me to make clothes for. When I opened the package there was a cute but very unsafe stuffed animal inside. There were whiskers made from fish line that were not anchored at all to the plush -- one tiny tug pulled them from the stuffed animal. I child would have choked on them. The tag has not warning that it is for an older child -- why are American makers who are so aware of safety issues penalized when our Chinese counterparts can flood the market with cheap items that are totally unsafe?
