Woot! I just called Dritz regarding a product I use and they referred me to the following website:

www.gcc.dritz.com

All you have to do is type in your product number or UPC number and it gives you a GCC on the item.

Hooray!!!

Okay, off to mention this in the master suppliers thread...

Can I ask which snaps you are getting from Dritz that are compliant? I couldn't find any that they actually test.

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

This is very frustrating! I was thinking that Dritz products were safe. Months ago they had their name on the compliant suppliers list on various blogs.
But the other day I realized that they never actually tested anything. Nor did they reply to any emails when I questioned them about their testing and certification.
JUST SILENCE.
I also typed in the number and found the same thing: Yes, the products is compliant. But then, NO it is not considered a children's product. Where do they think those little snaps go? I am not going to use any more products made by Dritz! I will replace all snaps with velcro and other buttons!

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

i think their paints and adhesives were the only thing that was listed as compliant. i'm going to put them on draft mode until there's more info.

if anyone has info on any other companies on the list, please let me know.

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

wait a minute, no that wasn't easy, it was useless. Why do I want GCC certification that says that there is no lead requirement because snaps are not a childrens product? Sorry, I'm sure that's what the previous 4 pages of posts discuss.

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

Just because a company offers a COC it does not mean that it meets the testing requirement under the CPSIA. , Not all COCs are in regards to the CPSIA there are many reasons that a company may have one type or another COC on file, a COC can be a statement of compliancy with a voluntary industry standard, a not for profit organization's standards (like the UL), or even another government agency. As said before it could just be the manufacture stating that since a component is and of itself not specifically for the use by children that they do not need to test under the CPSIA. Quite a few COCs that I've read somewhere in the certificate seem to contain a statement similar to this :
" At this time, it has been determined that, as per the definitions provided by the Consumer Product Safety Commission in the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, this product is not considered a children’s product nor is it a children’s toy and therefore has no lead or phthalate content requirements under the CPSIA."
So if there is no test lab listed or in house test results then the COC is useless for compliancy under the CPSIA.

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

Hey good news! I got a message back from PRYM (who I beleive makes the dritz stuff) regarding the product I was concerned about, Fray Check. It currently has the same statement we all seem to be seeing about how all their stuff is being tested and in the next sentence how there are no testing requirements for this product (here's the link to their cert: http://gcc.dritz.com/compliance.php?cdId=417). So I wrote them:

Hi, I just wanted to confirm that your check liquid seam sealant is currently in the process of being tested? I need to have a COC stating that the labels I'm using are fray checked with a child safe material as the shirts are intended for children. Your COC seems to say that this product is being tested but hasn't yet? Just wanted to confirm that and see if I can get an update once the testing has been done.
Thank you

This product is at the testing facility now. Once the tests have been received, they will be posted to our GCC database. Thanks!

She also sent along the MSDS for the product which I know doesn't fulfill requirements. I should have mentioned how their message sounded like they were saying it didn't need to be tested, but I hadn't noticed that yet. Anyhow, either way it sounds like this product that they say they don't need to test - they are testing anyway. So that's exciting. I'm still getting my first batch of labels done without the fray check, but maybe next time I order the COC will be updated. Yay!
