Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

Woot! I just called Dritz regarding a product I use and they referred me to the following website:

www.gcc.dritz.com

All you have to do is type in your product number or UPC number and it gives you a GCC on the item.

Hooray!!!

Okay, off to mention this in the master suppliers thread...

Where do you type in the product info? I'm looking at the site and don't see....but it could be obvious. :)

Yes this is exciting. I just bought snaps and type in the number and they are CPSIA approved. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

THANKS! I've been a little worriedsince I never heard back from them concerning the snaps. And I was wondering--should I pull them off all 100 or so bibs I have in stock? This is VERY helpful and exciting! :)

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

Can someone help me with this? I put in the upc code of some dritz snaps I have and I got a certificate of compliance but it says this:

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE
Company Name:Prym Consumer USA Inc.Address:P. O. Box 5028
Spartanburg, SC 29304 Telephone: 864... Contact Person:CPSIA_Compliance_Officer@prym-consumer-usa.com
Item Number:25-RUPC Code:072879100464Item Description:Decorative Pearl Snaps-12ct-whiteCountry Of Origin:Mexico
DateLab InfoStandard
02/10/2009 Prym is adamant about product compliance and is currently undergoing complete product evaluation and testing under the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act. At this time, it has been determined that, as per the definitions provided by the Consumer Product Safety Commission in the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, this product is not considered a children’s product nor is it a children’s toy and therefore has no lead or phthalate content requirements under the CPSIA.

So, has it not actually be tested since it is not a childrens product? I'm confused.

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

That's what it looks like to me. It's a supplier statement indicating that this is a "supply" and not a children's product so they don't have to test it (completely within their rights as per CPSIA).

On a side note, I know that pearl snaps/buttons have failed XRF testing for some people...this might be why they decided to forgo testing on this product. I would discontinue using them.

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

Thank you. I thought it seemed a bit tricky to head the letter with 'CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE' when really they are not complying bc of lead content but only bc they don't need to test. I have not been using these on any childrens items so I have no need to discontinue but I was hoping to find some kind a closure for a new dress I'm making. Are there any safe buttons? Wood ones maybe? How would I know if the wood has been treated at all?

WonderAndWhimsy:
I'm actually using only handmade buttons made of wood (some of them from an etsy seller) or natural mother of pearl (are expensive). Also, I'm using 100% nylon sew-on snaps from Dritz, but they cannot be ironed :(

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

Ok, just looked through several of their items. Did they actually test anything? I haven't seen anything that has been tested. :( This isn't really helpful for us.

If Dritz says that it isn't a children's product, but you use it in a child's product, then it falls under CPSIA.

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

Thanks for posting, but I'm having the same problem that auntcindysattic is. Everything I put in gets the message that the product isn't defined as a children's item under the CPSIA and is not subject to the lead/phthalates regulations. Puts me back at square one on a couple of items I'd wanted to make and list in my shop...

Re: Website for finding GCCs for Dritz products!

Thanks for the link!

If Dritz isn't testing their snaps, The Snap Source does, they are 100% CPSIA compliant and will send you a letter of compliance on request.
