I just sent a message and got the note saying, that they are getting so many questions that they can't answer them all and to check their website for updates. It's lovely being ignored.
Here's a list of media outlets that could be contacted. Maybe if enough of us write to them they may see this as a serious story to be covered. Hopefully as seriously as the report last week about toxic toys or last night's report on Wal Mart jewelry having 30 % lead content.
The links where compliled by Painted Bull at ETSY.
Mary, these are a few of the ones I could find, I have to go, the kids just got home from school.
I do not know about Rush Limbaugh or Neal Boortz but they have big mouths and would love to talk smack about the government and its regulation of small businesses…
Here are the ones that didn't copy right first time because they are emails. editor @ weeklystandard.com ontherecord @ foxnews.com foxreport @ foxnews.com hannity @ foxnews.com americas-talking @ foxnews.com oreilly @ foxnews.com
"Foreign manufacturers and private labelers of imported products do not need to issue certificates, and they do not need to be listed as parties on certificates. For products manufactured in the United States, only the domestic manufacturer needs to issue the certificate. Private labelers do not need to issue certificates, and do not need to be listed as parties on certificates."
It is sad that many of us who have put our creativity into making items for children to sell will no longer be able to do business come Feb 10th! It is important to protect our children, but this seems excessive! I currently make blankets, bibs, and burp cloths out of organic fabrics, including 8 front fabrics, 3 backing fabrics and 3 trims fabrics. From my understanding of the new regulations, it would not be sufficient for me to have my 14 fabrics tested or supply testing certification from the fabric manufacturer. I would have to test each style of item I make from those fabrics as a unit. We are talking 72 baby blankets (the 8 front fabrics combined with each of the 3 back fabrics and those 24 combinations paired with each of the 3 trim fabrics). Now, consider I make lovie (security-size), baby and child blankets, bibs, and burp clothes, plus I do appliques onesies and baby hats. We're talking, if I understand the regulation correctly, 504 items I'd have to test! Please contact your congressman & CPSC about this!
Greenwrapz... not only that but you'd be subject to phthalate testing too because your items are used to facilitate sleep/feeding. The whole thing makes me so sad.
ok, I read & I'm confused... so retailers can sell untested things manufactured in other countries to artists/crafters, but the resulting creations made in the U.S. have to be tested? correct?
mercy, I'm all for protecting children, but if I understand correctly this is BEYOND poorly thought out.
I just added some illustrations and text to my flickr site. Please feel free to use it on your blogs, emails, facebook, ... Thanks a bunch for spreading the word!
