Re: Up coming webinar on CPSIA

Who are the people that are doing the presentation? What is their relationship to CPSC?

Re: Up coming webinar on CPSIA

Hmmm, Well the law firm is one of the largest in the world, dipping their fingers into all aspects of the law. They are an interesting bunch by just a quick scan of wiki, Abramoff, Diane VonFurstenberg, lots of lobbying, Chicago dealings, racketeering charges.

SGS does testing with labs all around the world, with only 1 in the US, most in Asia.

Re: Up coming webinar on CPSIA

When Federal laws come out, law firms suddenly find a new way to make money. This happened in another industry that I have been involved with.

This law firm "may" have interesting things to say but every other phrase will be "you need to hire us". Since this requires registration do not be surprised if you are inundated after this presentation with attempts to get you to hire them to "help" you comply. And do not be surprised if there are a few scare tactics thrown it.

I sat through a number of these lawyer sponsored seminars for another Federal law and with everyone of them you came out after convinced how could you not hire them. And they were always talking major fees.

Anyone tuning into this? I'm listening and it seems to contain quite good information. I'm going to get a link for this and post it on my blog.

Re: Up coming webinar on CPSIA

Just attended: CPSIA Revived . . . What's Happening in Washington . . . How CPSIA changes will affect your company.

My question to the panel of CPSC regulators was the last one heard.

QUESTION: Under the current CPSIA regulations, will home-based clothing businesses making short-run products for children under the age of 12 be required to label their items in the same manner as large clothing manufacturers?

ANSWER: Currently, small manufacturers of children's clothing will be required to adhere to the same labelling guidelines as the large ones. All products will need to be tested as a completed item and labelled appropriately.

CONCLUSION: Unless the law is changed, this will DESTROY small business in America.

Re: Up coming webinar on CPSIA

No Little. Rather than attend a pity party, as a clothing designer for little girls, it means that I simply limit my designs and switch to either organic fabrics or those that are already certified so that the labelling requirements are met for those items which I produce. Then, if I only have 4 designs in 4 different fabrics and 3 distinct sizes, I only need 48 different sku tags that need to be sewn into my clothing items. Did I mention that hang tags are not allowed to have the labels on them? Oops! Sorry. The labels need to be sewn into the garments. Gotta run - I have a letter to write ;)
