Tracking labels.

I make baby clothes memory quilts. What needs to be on my tracking label specifically? I found a website that said this:

1. Manufacturer or private labeler name;
2. Location and date of production of the product;
3. Detailed information on the manufacturing process, such as a batch or run number, or other identifying characteristics; and
4. Any other information to facilitate ascertaining the specific source of the product.

So mine would say:
1. WhirlyBirds
2. City, State or just USA? And how am I supposed to get labels with specific dates on them?
3. huh?
4. …

Thanks!
Aimee

Re: Tracking labels.

Aimee,

Batch, run, cohort, aren't going to apply to the majority of us. You aren't making 1000 identical items at the same time. So. don't even worry about that part of the labeling.

I have a web address where I can be contacted. So my labels say:

Fayemalonedesigns.com
Kinsman, Oh USA
Handmade in the USA
of imported fabric
14 15 SSFW 16 17

I take a stitch or 2 under the year, 14, 15, 16, 17 and the quarter of the year. SSFW for my dating. Originally I used !4 JFMAMJJASOND 15 (the year and the letter of each month. I could use these for 2 years. I had my last bunch of labels printed on a yard of fabric from Spoonflower.com and I got 312 labels so I think that will do me for a time

The dating can be anything coding that you want that will enable you to know the Who, what, when, and where of the sale. Since your quilts are custom, for the most part, you know exactly when they were made and to whom you sold them too. That coupled with record keeping should satisfy the Gov. Maybe not the EPA, the CIA, the TSA, the NSA, and the FBI, but the CPSIA will be okay with it.
