Thoughts about labels

so i am currently not making things for children, but i have made a baby afghan and was thinking about listing it. but now i'm not sure because this whole label issue is a bit disconcerting.

so i asked a few questions and it seems like u all r using fabric labels u can sew into the garment. and although i think that's a great idea it seems costly. but would it be ok to make cardstock tags with all the information on them and attach them with yarn to knitted or crocheted items. the "labels" could then be removed by the buyer.

or is this considered not ok???

Re: Thoughts about labels

oh and just to be clear, i could make my own tags because i have a computer and printer and graphic abilities. but doing the fabric labels myself doesn't seem feasible and then i worry about the effect it will have to have a sewn on label on an afghan.

Re: Thoughts about labels

I'm pretty sure it has to be permanent label...

Re: Thoughts about labels

Afraid so...

I THINK there might be something in the CPSIA website about labels and asthetics, you should check their website...but I still think it needs a permanent tag.

Re: Thoughts about labels

I thought when I read it, it said something about not needing them if it messed up the looks too.

Re: Thoughts about labels

well i wouldn't mind putting a cardstock tag on it that could be removed, but gees to put something on that is permanent. even mattresses and pillows have removable tags ... and a baby could be smothered in a pillow ... if we want to get "technical" about it... lol

Re: Thoughts about labels

yeah sounds itchy too! would ruin the soft cuddly quality your after. I was thinking up a way to silk sceen a tag to the back of my hood wraps, but thats still all in the mind and would not work on knitted things.
Good luck

Re: Thoughts about labels

Sabina24, I purchase the june tailor colorfast fabric sheets to make my labels. They are inexpensive and can be printed using your inkjet printer. Just sew onto your blanket and the customer can choose to cut it off it they please.

Re: Thoughts about labels

My suggestion, go look at similar products in retail stores. How are they labeled. I think that you will find that they almost all have labels.
