Lead solder. I saw that this morning and just about choked on it.

Of course maybe that's how lead-free garments plus lead-free dye can equal toxic clothing. Good thing I'm not in DC proper in that case!

Re: The Real Lead Threat, in CPSC's own Kitchen

this is the stuff that is really endangering kids, large scale environmental pollutants, not hand made hair bows and wooden toys, you know.

That is the most insulting thing about this law, it isn't about protecting kids from lead poisoning because if lawmakers really cared about the health of our children things like this would never happen....

Oh, it is so upsetting....

Re: The Real Lead Threat, in CPSC's own Kitchen

Federal law makers will have nothing to say about it because it will have no bearing on their re-election and it will not get them any press coverage.....

I lived in washington dc for a good part of my life and the feds never gave a darn about the state of the city or the people who lived there ... It is only the Obama's who I have ever heard mention doing something for the city... I'm sure they will have something to say about this and something to do about it too....

OH, and those lawmakers definitely aren't drinking *gasp!* Tapwater, this is (just like everything in DC) a situation that will affect poor taxpayers who do not have a vote in congress.

Re: The Real Lead Threat, in CPSC's own Kitchen

If you search lead poisoning statistics in the US you will see that the number one source of lead poisoning is from drinking water.

Maybe they would like to ban that next?

Oh, but surely *bottled* water from the larger bottlers and companies would be OK. We'd be up to our eyeballs in plastic bottles, mind you. LOL

Re: The Real Lead Threat, in CPSC's own Kitchen

I got flagged or something for posting this link/my other opinions or something 'cause something I wanted to post would not post and instead I got a message telling me to only post relevant things to the forums and a link to a storque article about how to behave in the forums...

I hope I didn't offend anyone, my point in posting the story was to point out yet another flaw in the logic behind the CPSIA law and the fact that it seems there are greater threats out there than hand dyed jumpers.

peace

No worries, RentParty. I was thinking about posting it myself due to the irony quotient. :-)

And really, if I were doing my dyeing with DC water, that would actually be directly relevant to my biz! LOL

HAHAHA!!!! Generations TieDye, you are so right.....how crazy is that?

Those poor DC kids, they always get the raw deal.

What I think is that somebody reported my post, that kind of thing, probably 'cause it got a little political, which I should avoid, I know that... but it was weird....

Not really. Dirty secret, a lot of the bottled water sold in the US IS city water, repackaged in plastic bottles and sold at high price. Between 25-40% of bottled water is fancy tap water.

And if it does NOT coming from city water it does NOT have to meet the same quality control that city water would. So in various random samples, bottled water have turned up with unacceptable levels of lead, toluene, arsenic, and chloroform.

Some articles on it:

Re: The Real Lead Threat, in CPSC's own Kitchen

Sorry, Fenris, should've probably qualified that with my "tongue-in-cheek" qualifier. LOL There's a reason I broke down and got my own water filters for my City water. :-)
