Okay, I'm typically a thread killer but hopefully the planets are aligned just so this morning...

There is a wonderful thread ( http://www.etsy.com/forums_thread.php?thread_id=6006981&page=1 ) started about compiling a list of materials that are already tested. I think this is great idea since 1) it buys everyone time until August and 2) I truly believe the law will be amended to allow for component testing.

I am in the process of compiling a list for myself of all the companies provided in the other thread but would love to create a PDF file of all of them along with any MSDS sheets or GCC sheets folks have already acquired from the companies so that we aren't constantly repeating steps. I'd then gladly send it to anyone interested and keep it updated as new info comes in. Would anyone be interested?

Oh, and if you have any of the sheets from the companies already drop me a line! Thanks!

Re: Tested Materials PDF Compilation

I've never posted before and I don't even have a store so forgive me if I'm out of line. I had been following a thread in etsy to see what everyone was doing about the law since I make angels. I am on the list for email updates on the new law from CPSC. I received this email yesterday. In part it reads:

"In an effort to provide clear and reasonable guidance to those impacted by this important law, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is announcing its enforcement policy on the lead limits established by the CPSIA.

Manufacturers, importers, distributors, and retailers should also be aware that CPSC will:

*Not impose penalties against anyone for making, importing, distributing, or selling

**a children's product to the extent that it is made of certain natural materials, such as wood, cotton, wool, or certain metals and alloys which the Commission has recognized rarely, if ever, contain lead;

**an ordinary children's book printed after 1985; or

**dyed or undyed textiles (not including leather, vinyl or PVC) and non-metallic thread and trim used in children's apparel and other fabric products, such as baby blankets."

So I don't think it's as drastic as we originally thought. At least not for those of us who make children's products out of fabric and natural materials. Hope this helps anyone who wasn't aware of the update.

Re: Tested Materials PDF Compilation

I can't imagine how a list of certificates is really going to help everyone. I understand. The thought is nice, the effort appreciated.

But at some point, you are going to have to look at manufacturing dates for the manufactured items. I feel that someone will grab onto a certificate and it may not have anything to do with the particular item they are trying to certify. Between resellers, friends giving friends extra supplies, fabric stores, whatever - how will a person possibly know who a particular item is manufactured by.

Fear is going to push us into 3rd party testing. Everyone is scared right now. They are willing to jump through hoops to get through this instead of trying to hang in there long enough to see what Congress and the CPSC is going to do. If the CPSC feels we are willing to test, they will go ahead and declare it necessary. It just helps them out.

Re: Tested Materials PDF Compilation

This is an old thread from a while back about compiling GCCs from different companies that have tested their products and are compliant with the CPSIA legislation. I don't know what became of the collection of all the different PDF's but I know it would be a gold mine for us to have now. It could save us all so much time in begging and waiting for emails from so many different companies. I don't know if anyone has already done this or how to go about it. The only thing I can think of is that on Facebook if you open a group, then you can upload PDF documents to the group page. That way we could all (at least all those with Facebook accounts) access the documents more easily than one person being emailed all the different documents. Does Etsy have some forum where you can upload documents to be visible to Team members? Let me know what you think the best way is to go about this. I have a few GCCs I can add to the pile right now but would love to have more...

Remember MSDS sheets do not quality... must be lab results

Re: Tested Materials PDF Compilation

Greetings everyone! I'm new to this but I am also trying to compile a list of companies that provide certification It's still in its infancy so far, no one is giving me their certification since there is a chain of command. I'll gladly contribute and provide batch numbers or lots were applicable. Misty Thank you for the link. I was looking for something like this in order to see if the certification I did receive was compliant for the use I had in mind!

Re: Tested Materials PDF Compilation

Thanks Sara!!! You would think if we. Oils compile it all we. Oils get a nice list of supplies. I keep hitting closed doors and haven't gotten anything yet and getting disgusted. But some are definitely giving me hope:)
