Suppliers and CPSIA

What suppliers are going to realize is even if THEY are exempt and WE are required to test, it's gonna hit them in a BIG way. Those of us who can't afford the testing will most often chose to close our shops.

Person who closes their shop buys much much less supplies, or even NO supplies. They've lost not only the income to buy supplies, but the reason to buy supplies.

IF they test and are complaint, and we, exemption or not, continue selling. We can buy their supplies and use them with confidence. Even if we aren't going to be required to have their certification at hand. (and more so if we will)

Already some of us were set up to sell wholesale or in
consignment shops, and find we have to take our work back...and may not be able to sell that work on our own, even if we get supplier certs.

And, where do the suppliers get their raw materials? farms and industrial suppliers, and even other suppliers of supplies.... and those people use fuel and hire people to raise the wool, cotton, alpaca, wool... or produce the acrylic, or mine the silver...

It's quite an economic chain, even when i just look at a plushie I just made myself. There are so many hands involved before my hands touch the yarn.

I totally agree. I have been saying this exact thing to everyone that asks me why it is such a big deal. It truely is a domino effect.

Re: Suppliers and CPSIA

You would think that its common sense. It would also common sense apply that if we ask for them Certs from our suppliers and they refuse then we will find other suppliers. But sadly it seems to me at least that common sense in this case simply does not apply?

Re: Suppliers and CPSIA

Yeah, exactly, encourage and promote the suppliers who certify their supplies...

and boycott the ones that say "It's not our problem".

Re: Suppliers and CPSIA

I was at really small craft shop the other day in another town, I don't remember the name but I could drive there with no problem.

They had lots of items on there shelves that said: No Lead... I know cause I went looking through nearly all the beads on her shelves....

She said one of her supplier started sending beads packages to her saying no lead since last November. In fact that how she learned about the NEW CPSIA LAW.

She trying to find other suppliers who also sell only products that say No Lead..... Her beads are a little more expensive that Hobby Lobby, but I thought it was worth it...

The weird thing is that the beads packages said made in china..... I guess not all the manufacturers in China are creeps....
