Do I mark down prices of the stuff in my store? And what about all the fabric, etc? I'm so upset that I spent the $$ on this stuff and I can't use it. Talk about a loss.
What are you doing with all your baby items/supplies?
But we have a SALE on until Jan 31, then we are going back to reg prices as we wait and see what happens (but NOT stocking up on baby/kid blanks right now just in case).
See if there are any action groups in your area on this, maybe if they hear enough voices they will change it. There are already some amendments to the original proposal...
There are going to be lots of cute doggies stylin' and profilin' in my hairbows and clips if the law stands!!Unless, of course, PETA is palnning to adopt a similar testing requirement for pet items......
As the law stands now it would be illegal to even give away anything not tested. Totally ridiculous! Marketing my bows as for pets may just work, though. . .
I'm going for civil disobedience... THe media will love it when they drag a disabled granny to jail for making PLUSHIES... (when my city is still full of Meth labs...)
I sell on Etsy some of my shirts but also have an online store where most of my sales are. I'm too afraid to add up my inventory right now, but we are talking at least 1,500 shirts. I'm still holding out high hopes that enough changes will take place for me to continue doing what I'm doing. If not, I'm inviting all the press that I can think of to a viewing party of the shirts getting dumped at the landfill! Alright, that is my new activist voice speaking. I would probably wash them all so that they are considered used and donate them. Not even sure that would be legal under CPSIA! I can't stand the thought of all those shirts getting tossed when there are so many in need that could use them!
My kids have already called "dibs" on certain things. I havn't been adding to inventory for a while now. The material I use (fleece, felt) can be used for non-kid stuff in the future.
Come February 3rd, I will be liquidating my inventory at extremely low prices (this gives me time before February 10th rolls around).
On February 9th, I'm pulling everything and donating it to the Goodwill (as they won't, technically, have to test and I'm sure my items are lead free).
Otherwise, by the letter of the law, you'll have to trash it.

PS: Fabric can be sold, by the way. As it's not a child's item and doesn't have to be used as such, you can destash it. That's what I'll be doing on Etsy -- there will still be a ton of people making stuff for their own kids, my fabric will sell.
I will definitely be making stuff for my own kids. But since I am confident this law will be amended or repealed entirely before February 10th, I'm not making any plans for the few children's items I have in my store. As for my supplies that I have that might be geared toward making children's products, I'll use them to make shower gifts for people I know. Will the CPSIA folks be raiding baby showers as part of enforcing the law? I'm betting no.
Hey guys, so sorry this is happening to you. I've been thinking-and it might not apply to everybody but...
When I was little they put in the law that all kids jammies had to be fire retardent. Well my favorite jammie designer used 100% cotton and it said on the tag "not for sleepware". These were obviously pajamas. It was a simple way to get around a law that meant well but caused tons of problems. I'm sure lots of you could continue to make your children's items and just say "not for children". Just a thought.
