Second Blog In?

I was just wondering if this would be worth it...

We've been granted a stay, but it's just that, a stay. From what I have understood, nothing has really been changed at the moment.

Would it be a good idea for all of us to have another blog in to announce the good news, but remind people to keep working on this and, of course, get the word out to more and more people?

Just an idea. I'd love your feedback.

You might want to consider combining the "news" with announcing Sen Jim DeMint's legislation to CHANGE CPSIA. It's going to be extremely important to drum up TONS AND TONS of support for this legislation. He is a Republican and the chances of this proposed legislation getting shot down are high UNLESS we keep up the pressure on ALL congresscritters to support this proposed legislation, we'll be right back where we were this time next year.

While the stay is good, if nothing else changes we are right back where we stand now, come next February. The fight is far from over.

I'm glad people are interested. I still think that too much of the American public doesn't know about this law and they need to know the extent of it.

So down to business...

My thoughts for a second one would be along the same lines, an informative post stating that we are all for protecting our children and do that in our everyday lives, but that the laws are poorly written and need to be clarified.

Maybe something about the "blue wool + green wool does not a hazmat make" as I like to call it.... testing of final product when components have already been tested and there is no chemical change involved is unnecessary and cost prohbitive.

Also a clarification of exactly what needs to be tested etc (if this is necessary after above). I my instance, wall hangings are excluded, but we don't know what wall hangings are. I would assume paintings would fall into that category and thus be excluded, but then they do fall under the nursery decor category so need to be tested. It can't be both ways.

Clarification of items made for children to USE versus others (again decorative items would fall into this category). While I make my artwork for children to look at, I never did intend for them to gnaw on it.

These are obviously some of my concerns and I know others of you have different ones. Perhaps we could make a post and adapt it to our circumstances?

you know i'm in ♥ Gretchen! i think your points are valid ones - i too have mentioned that while the stay is a wonderful thing it is not an answer! we do SO much need to get clear and concise answers & wording in this legislation before it becomes enforceable. the fact is there are items (MANY) that shouldn't even be included in the testing requirements and should be exempt - this needs to be clarified. the items that do need to be tested need to be able to be tested in an afford yet proven & accurate way so that small businesses are not burdened unnecessarily and children are kept SAFE!!! i am still having some of my items tested for my own peace of mind - my leather suedes and fabrics i KNOW are fine because of the premium grade and processing guidelines the tanneries i use go through - but i do have products that contain other items that i want to feel confident in using. i also think that third party testing requirements need to really be address and thoroughly examined to avoid redundant testing on items that are in no way a threat to children - some food for thought. we're definitely one step closer to a resolve but we can't let ourselves forget there is still much work to be done - but thankfully we have a year to do it!

Definitely need to reiterate the need for component testing and the fact that many materials are intrinsically lead free (fabrics, yarn) and should be excluded from testing.
