Question from a buyer

As sellers, how do you feel about private convos for "contraband" after February 11th?

Re: Question from a buyer

LOL Scared 'cause I don't know if the costumer is "real" or it's somebody that want to "get" me

Re: Question from a buyer

To quote a Bush: Not gonna do it.

Too many things to factor in. Primarily, I wouldn't be able to sell it on Etsy, therefore it'd be fee avoidance. And who knows if its a legit request or someone out to haul me in.

Re: Question from a buyer

Personally I'm not worrying about the "contraband" issue too much...I'm sticking to all Made in USA materials which the NTA has confirmed do not contain lead (my "reasonable testing program"), and I'm also confident that things will change before the August deadline so that we will be OK to sell beyond that--whether it be a complete repeal or supply-side component testing. Personally I think it HAS to be one or both of those, I've seen quite a few people who have said that even XRF testing is financially out of their reach.

Re: Question from a buyer

Good point about the fee avoidance EBD, although there was a whole other thread discussing whether or not we could get sued. The only way the buyer would have a case is if they had your item tested and it was over the limit for lead or phthalates. Otherwise it's a frivolous lawsuit and would get thrown out.

Re: Question from a buyer

If I know you in real life, I'll sell to you. If you're a long-term online friend, I'll sell to you, too. Otherwise I don't know who you are & won't risk it. One of my online mom friends said she wants more bows sometime - not for her daughter, but for herself ;)

Re: Question from a buyer

Great points.....and I thank you for answering honestly.

As a buyer, obviously I would still love to support indie artists. Tricky as hell to do though after the 11th.

Re: Question from a buyer

I would be afraid that it would be someone just checking that I was really following all of the rules as well. Tomorrow I will be going into vacation mode and when I come back, I will no longer be carrying children items-I am very sad about that and hope that this whole mess gets fixed!!

Re: Question from a buyer

hey it would not be fee avoidance if we listed it as custom for... and the price and not list the item. Black market for 100% childrens clothing lol

Re: Question from a buyer

convo away. I have reasonable expectation that my finished items do not violate the lead or phylate levels.

Expecting my supplies/items to have excessive lead or phylates is an unreasonable expectation... it requires a suspension of belief beyond my capability.

If anyone has a recipie for turning wool into gold (surely if wool can turn into lead, it can be turned into gold), please post in techniques & materials.

Re: Question from a buyer

I don't intend to make ANY changes in my product (though inspiration is slumping) or shop.

I sincerely believe this law, as it stands now, is unconstitutional and unreasonable.

Re: Question from a buyer

trinlayk....that's just it. It is unreasonable and unconstitutional. If I'm going to buy it on the 10th, then I will on the 11th too....that's if I can get it!

Ah but after Aug 14th it's not possible to do custom orders since you'd have to test the final product...and then it would be destroyed through the testing process.

Just playing devil's advocate here.

Of course, there's always email.
