Plain and simple

This is where I am. I make baby blankets and burp cloths. I want to use cotton flannel, bamboo, minky and other soft fabrics. I won't be using anything but fabric, thread and labels for my products. I read fabrics are exempt? now but it needs to also be phthalate free correct? I also need proof from each supplier for each item correct? So most likely I can't just go to Jo Ann's fabrics.

Would love any links to suppliers that are phthalate free if you know or buy from any. I've spent a good portion of the day reading, researching and trying to understand it. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,
April

Re: Plain and simple

Phthalates are related to vinyl/plastic items or those coated with those materials. Fabrics are phthalate-free, as long as they are of the usual fibers like cotton, wool, polyester, etc. Unless your items are in a few specific categories of feeding/sleeping items, this won't be a problem.

Fabrics are also on the exempt list for lead content, as they inherently do not contain significant lead. Printing on them, vinyl appliques applied, metallic threads in them or waterproofing would all make them no-longer-exempt from lead content testing or documentation.

But you will need to label correctly for both CPSIA requiremtns and the FTC care and content requirements.
