Pillow Covers

I'm looking to make pillow covers as home decor. Do I need to have tags on them with washing codes and such or can I just attach a paper tag to the package for this?

Re: Pillow Covers

Yes you need to have FTC sewn in labels.

Textile Products: What’s Covered And What’s Not
In general, most clothing and textile products commonly used in a household are
covered by the labeling requirements. Such items include:5

Bedding — sheets, covers,
blankets, comforters, pillows,
pillowcases, quilts, bedspreads,
and pads (but not outer coverings
for mattresses or box springs)

Cushions

Furniture slip covers and other
furniture covers

Pillow covers would fall under one of the above.

Re: Pillow Covers

The fabric is polyster on front, polyester cotton on back. thread and zipper being used. I just have a generic photo in my listings as I need to get these tags to finish before I sew them.

Re: Pillow Covers

Crystal for your FTC labels you need :

Face, Polyester
Back: Polyester cotton (You need to have the % blend. 50/50, 25/75 Whatever is on the bolt end of fabric)
Imported from???? made in USA (What country was the fabric made)
Machine wash or hand wash cold (whatever is needed)
lay flat to dry (or whatever)
No bleach

Imported products must identify the country where they were processed or
manufactured.

Products made entirely in the U.S. of materials also made in the U.S. must be
labeled “Made in U.S.A.” or with an equivalent phrase.

Products made in the U.S. of imported materials must be labeled to show the
processing or manufacturing that takes place in the United States, as well as the
imported component.

Products manufactured in part in the U.S. and in part abroad must identify both
aspects.

You don't need your business name or web site unless you want them. You could have a logo label with the FTC label sewn to the bottom edge. Most of your better garments have a decorative business designer label with the woven FTC information on a seperate label sewn under the edge

Re: Pillow Covers

The fronts were printed in USA no idea where they were made. The back fabric I have no idea where it comes from, nor do the people I bought from

Re: Pillow Covers

Also, do I have to have a date on which the item was produced? I don't see this anywhere but I recall seeing it somewhere once.

Re: Pillow Covers

If you don't know at this point where the fabric was made more than likely it was imported, we make very little fabric in the USA anymore. So,

Made in the USA of imported fabric

is what you will have to use.

You might mention to your fabric source especially if they are in the business of selling fabric, that the FTC laws apply to them, so that their customers can comply with the law.

Font size doesn't appear to be a problem as it once was, just so it is readable. Look at the tiny font in the back of Hanes t[shirts, pretty darm small.

don't need a date, date of manufacturer is for the CPSIA children's law.

Re: Pillow Covers

THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I have asked the fabric store but they are a huge chain store and they said their supplier probably doesn't even know where it's made. With so much coming from the other side of the world...who knows.
