PLEASE don't close your shops... Idea...

I have a suggestion. For everyone who carries kid's items and cannot comply with this insanely complex law:

If you close your shop on the 10th and just go away, we all lose.

Try leaving your shop open- but empty- while we keep lobbying and see how this all plays out.

Put in your shop announcement WHY your shop is empty. Something like

"Due to the new CPSIA law I cannot sell children's items due to innability to test my products. If you want more information on this law and proposed ammendments, please visit (link or onfo). If this law is repealed or ammended, I will be able to resume selling safe, toxin free children's items. Thank you for your support."

Let's see how all our buyers react when they go to your Etsy toy or clothing store and find it all boarded up and empty with tumbleweeds blowing around it. It may help our cause if this whole mess is not fixed by the 10th.

What do you think? Like I said, this is just an idea- if you don't agree, that's fine. Just don't bite my head off; like many of us I'm a little stressed and sad right now.

Me too. I won't be closing, but I have to make a lot of changes. I won't be able to sell many of the things I had been. :(

I think it's a wonderful idea! The thought of having to do it makes me sick, but it's so much better than quitting!! Could I add that if you have a website as well, it would be a good idea to do the same thing there too? And- while it plays out we have to keep fighting harder than ever! This is my life and I refuse to let them take it away from me. Would they prefer us all on welfare? Good idea acorn. I think that's what I'll do~ if I have to-

Thank you! It's not like it costs us anything to have an empty shop for a few weeks... and it keeps us LEGAL and VISIBLE while we are trying to get the law changed.

OP, I think you may have hit on something! I think it's a great idea. For those that have items other than for children, don't just pull the childrens item, but put a note in your shop message explaining why no children items are listed.

I think that is the best idea. Then *WHEN* the law gets changed, you will have your shop to go back to instead of starting over.

Absolutely! Particularly because I do feel the law will get amended in ways we need, I hate to see people's sales records and accounts get deleted. I had been wondering about using the Vacation Mode for just this purpose--we could still put the message out to everyone, we wouldn't have to lose the listings we already have up (just in case things are amended before they expire), people could still see the items they've "hearted," and they could even sign on to be notified when we're back in business. Is that right? I've never used Vacation Mode, but it seemed like that's how it would go....

Smart thinking acorngirl. I've never used vacation mode either, GreenValley, but I hope you're right about buyers being able to see items they've hearted. I was concerned about that aspect of moving my items to "inactive".

I think this is a great idea! I believe you can check the box next to each item and make them inactive also, maybe do it all at once?

Fairy Cute won't be closing...we just got started on Etsy and we're having too much fun. Having said that however, we will not be breaking the law. We'll be changing direction until this law gets sorted out, then we'll have even more stuff to offer. It's going to be great!
