Re: New to hand made advice and info needed

I tag my items at crochetqueen.etsy.com with a fabric sewn in tag that just says I made it and my website. I attatch card stock tags with care instructions and my little tag w/ my website.

Any tagging is always appreciated by a customer who gets the question "Where'd you get that?"

As for what Cananda laws and regulations you can try to start with the info below. Having an US IPS address what I get is mostly articles about USA manufacturers shipping to Canada. The following info came from a label manufacturer for the mattress and bed linens industry, it may not be exactly what you need to find out if your compliant with you own national laws but they maybe able to point you in the right direction.

Basically if you make anything out of yarns, fibers, or fabric to be shipped to the USA the FTC has laws about what needs to be included on the labels. Some of the info may be the same as the Canadian laws but you may want to double check what the USA requires if you ship a lot to the USA. In the USA the FTC is in charge of what fabric and fiber items require a care and content labels. FTC Labeling requirements can be read about here
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/textile/bus21.shtm#covered
and at
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/textile/bus50.shtm

If the item is for children under 13 then you may need to include the CPSIA labels as well the FTC ones. The CPSC is in charge of overseeing the tracking labels for recall purposes on all childrens items. More info on tracking labels at these 2 links

CPSIA's FAQ page

Just remember there has been no official response from either the CPSIA or the FTC if you can combine the 2 separate agencies required labels and still be compliant to the two separate laws.
