My experience with a "real" CPSIA label

So I bought a bunk bed from Walmart for my son. There was a sticker approx. 1" x 2.5" with all the tracking label info, stuck to one of the side boards. Looked like something you could print out on your home printer. The annoying thing was that the ugly sticker was stuck on one of the most visible pieces of wood once the bed was assembled. I ripped off the sticker and threw it away. Ha!

I just found it ironic, that we have been fretting so much over how to do these labels and this company prints out stickers to slap on their product, which the consumer will immediately remove. So much for tracking!

I haven't run across one yet, but I'd do exactly the same thing. Rip it off and toss it.

Sounds like a variation on the "Do not remove under penalty of the Law" stickers attached to mattresses. Very useful....

Considering how useful any regulation is that offers exemptions to the very ones that initiated the entire debate (Mattel is allowed to test in their own labs) it really makes your wonder :o)

Re: My experience with a "real" CPSIA label

That sounds like the final fate of many CPSIA lables. Those in clothing may get removed as they are likely to be either at the back of the neck or in a seam where they irritate sensitive skin

Re: My experience with a "real" CPSIA label

hahaha, honestly, other than branding something into wood, engraving in plastic or metal, how is anyone supposed to have permanent lables? Sewn in lables are easily removed, though I guess with fabric items we should dye the fabric with the tracking info huh?

Re: My experience with a "real" CPSIA label

Well the way I look at it is that we followed the law and did our part, but if the consumer removes the label/labels that's their problem. Opps, sounds kinda harsh, but I don't think people even think to care about the law until it effects them.
I've talked to a lot of mother's about the law and all I get is..."What law?".
If we continue to do what we need to do to stay in business, we've done what the law intended. Make us more accountable for our product. I'm still struggling with replacing key pieces for my clothing.

Re: My experience with a "real" CPSIA label

so has anyone considered sticker labels instead of sewn-in labels for clothing because of this information?

Re: My experience with a "real" CPSIA label

I thought I had read somewhere that sticker labels on clothing or fabric wasn't acceptable, because it wasn't permanent. I'll have to see if I can find that information. Does anybody else remember seeing that somewhere?

Re: My experience with a "real" CPSIA label

Here it is from http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/faq/103faq.html#hangtags

Could hangtags and adhesive labels be used as tracking labels for textile-type items?
No. The law requires that markings with the specified information be permanent. Hangtags and adhesive labels are not permanent.
