What does that mean? It sounds important...and a little scary, but it's probably just government-speak. I submitted a formal complaint to through the Small Business Administration (National Ombudsman)website about a week ago, in which I gave an overview of the dire situation of small businesses in general and then described how the CPSIA would effectively halt my plans to start writing, illustrating and producing my own children's books (I have a book about half done).

Today I got an email that I could tell was NOT a form letter, informing me that my "case" had been submitted for "high-level review". Do they just say that to everyone, or do you think I might have cracked some glass ceiling somewhere?

Re: My case has been forwarded to the CPSC for a "high-level review" (?)

I, too, sent in a complaint (and was assigned a case number) to the Ombudsman of the U.S. Small business Administration and received the same e-mail yesterday, 1/23/09. I sent a thank you and received another e-mail. It was nice to be acknowledged and that our complaint case is going somewhere. I was also told I would be contacted as information becomes available.

I wish I had your talent for words!!!! LOL - but I have been writing my representatives and will now send one to this office as well - thank you, thank you, thank you!

I can't imagine raising my future children in a world without handmade items intended for them, made with love and dedication.

I for one will not go down without a fight!

Re: My case has been forwarded to the CPSC for a "high-level review" (?)

Great letter! I contacted the Oklahoma State Chamber http://www.okstatechamber.com (they represent businesses at the state and federal level) and after discussing with a staff member the CPSIA law, H.R. 4040, and about how expensive it would be and people planning on closing their stores because of it(brick and mortar stores, not just on line and craft shows). And they were alarmed at how far reaching it was, into the garment and home based businesses(just read the LA Times and Forbes) and said they would check into it. I was told by them on Friday that our U. S. senators and reps were contacted and basically businesses do not need to get their childrens clothing/accessories items inspected(what you already have now and make before Feb. 10), the inspections are for items made after Feb. 10 and come early March they expect those items to be excluded and the inspections to be for items such as cribs, bassinets, playpens, etc. It will just take time for the changes to be made. And hold on to the items that you have, there should be no reason to dispose of them or get them checked for lead.
For information, call. Matt Robison,CAE, VP - Small Business, Workforce Development, Retail
the phone numer is (405)235-3669 or Mike Seney.

Re: My case has been forwarded to the CPSC for a "high-level review" (?)

I wonder how long it will take for them to hear back from the CPSC regarding my "case". I'm dying to know what they will have to say.

It's good to know that I'm not on a "watch list" or anything though. lol

Or maybe I am...

Re: My case has been forwarded to the CPSC for a "high-level review" (?)

the cpsc has 30 days to comment back on the complaint. this means after the feb 10 date but at least the cpsc is being flooded with official complaints not just emails and letters.

I got one also yesterday. I don't think I made a copy of the letter I sent. But eveyone should write, they assign you a case #, and they do respond. I feel encouraged by their actions. Much more responsive that from our elected officials.

So true, Faye. I was floored when I got that email yesterday. It was like WOW, somebody is actually taking their job seriously in Washington! Ya know..."by the people and for the people" and all that?

Re: My case has been forwarded to the CPSC for a "high-level review" (?)

So everybody has to change the tactics on how we complain. All complaints should come as FORMAL COMPLAINTS through the Small Business Administration (National Ombudsman) website.

We need to send Thousands not just the 20 we heard about... Remember TO FILE AS A FORMAL COMPLAINTS through the Small Business Administration (National Ombudsman) website.

I can't remember if his office is one of the places I have complained to, but I will be FILING A FORMAL COMPLAINTS within the next few days once I figure out how to word it and show how much revenue our family will be loosing because of this law, we have several other internet business that this law will be effecting as well.

Re: My case has been forwarded to the CPSC for a "high-level review" (?)

I agree that everyone needs to do this. Please keep writing! If they won't take individuals seriously, they can't ignore a FORMAL COMPLAINT. Maybe...somehow...this will FINALLY be the key to get through to that Waxman guy that's refusing to hold Congressional hearings on this (even though he's been urged to by several Congressmen and the CPSC is saying that their hands are tied). If you ask me, something smells rotten in Washington. It shouldn't be this complicated and ONE man should not hold the key to everyone's suffering or success. But it is the way it is, at least for now.

Now, that we've found something that might possibly pack a bit of a punch, let's keep punching!!!

Re: My case has been forwarded to the CPSC for a "high-level review" (?)

I just tried to use the form and got a server error, so maybe they are getting flooded. I can only hope so!

So instead, I wrote an email to Ombudsman@sba.gov
