Military and CPSIA

My husband is USAF, right now we live in England so I'm not sweating the CPSIA stuff too much, though I do plan to make some things to send to my parents to sell at farmers markets so I will get some labels done. Right now I have a "branding" label that states my shop name, that the item is made in England, and my ETSY shop address. The thing is with the location being mandatory on the CPSIA labeling how can I ever be compliant? We move every 3-4 years so if there is an issue 10 years from now my business is no longer in the UK it could be anywhere. I'm thinking I need to get my own domain since I would like to sell on some other venues also. Is this even worth it?

Re: Military and CPSIA

Since you are living in UK now, you probably don't have to worry about CPSIA but do need to comply with the UK laws. For the items that you send to your to your parents will have to have CPSIA labels and be compliant IF THEY ARE INTENDED FOR CHILDREN UNDER AGE 13.

There are many label makers here on etsy that will make small batchs of labels so you can change location when necessary. For contact info, put a web address or email address - not a physical address. Even when you move, the items you have in stock were made in England, just new items will be made in the new location and will require new labels.

You'll need new labels every time you move. Do keep in mind that if you happen to sell your items on base (such as a craft fair at the Exchange), you're required to be in compliance with American laws.

Then I'm thinking I might as well label everything as if I'm selling in the US, my main customer base will be people on the base as I plan to do the craft fairs and such there.

Getting your own domain is really nice. You can purchase a domain only (no hosting or anything just the www.xxxxxx.com) for $10/year - we are military too and that is the cheapest deal (and ligit/non complicated one) I've found!

www.KaraAndBrooke.com

Good luck on the CPSIA stuff, I'm not sure that law really confused me and I just stopped selling my baby stuff :(
