Re: Media Coverage Feb 3

That second article did bring up a bigger issue - trying to have laws and regulations that can apply to both large conglomerate manufacturers, and small, independent artisans. I think is what is becoming an issue for the bath and body shops as well.

Re: Media Coverage Feb 3

The Courier-Journal here in Louisville ran an article a couple of days ago. It was atrocious, and I sort of let the writer have it in the comments section.

If anyone else wants to add comments - and maybe sound friendlier than I did! - please do.

I should probably keep my mouth shut, lately. There's so much bad in my life right now, I'm in a perpetual foul mood. *sigh*

The 'new' media: http://crookedtimber.org/2009/02/01/toy-story/#comment-264680

Crooked Timber is a liberal blog, usually friendly to increased government regulation and spending, and they see the flaws in this law as written, and are frustrated that Republicans are the ones fighting it.

It's a very good article. PIRG is joining in the comments spreading misinformation (hinting that the Handmade Toy Alliance and others are probably actually fronts for Big Toy Industries, because clearly, only the Big Toy Industries would have an issue with this bill- or so suggests PIRG).

great articles! thanks for posting them here!
I heard a report on NPR last night. Unfortunately it was not so favorable on our behalf. They kind of made it sound like we were trying to get away with something...

Well done articles! I agree, germandolls, the NPR spot wasn't as well done as it could have been.

Re: Media Coverage Feb 3

Disappointing spot in Tulsa on Fox tonight... the promo spot had the anchor holding up a handmade wooden train (NOT Thomas, a handmade unpainted train) and said something to the effect of "changes to a new law may make it possible for dangerous lead levels to remain in your children's toys". I'm paraphrasing, but that's it in a nutshell. I found it ironic she was holding up a HANDMADE UNPAINTED train while saying this. Hmph.

Re: Media Coverage Feb 3

hey! it wasn't a train, it was a truck, and my husband made it! we were the ones in the spot. she did not in anyway, say what you think she did. that's not it in a nutshell at all. i will post the link to the spot as soon as it becomes available on the web.

Re: Media Coverage Feb 3

I was speaking of the teaser and posted BEFORE the spot aired actually. It aired pretty much exactly as I described it. She held up a beautiful handmade wooden toy and then gave the "dangerous lead in toys" tag. That was obviously to draw in viewers...and the spot was better than the teaser.

Was coming back to talk about the spot, but since you were featured, I think it would be better if you explained it.

My opinion on the teaser remains the same. I am disappointed that a misleading teaser was used, because their ARE people who will assume the lead in toys reference was referring to that type of toy.

Wow, you guys - we are all in this together - not the time to jump on each other. Jeminabean was being supportive. We are all really nervous right now.
