Am I the only one who has received a letter informing me of CPSIA? It read...

"Are Your Bows CPSIA Compliant? Do you even know anything about the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act?"

No name, and the address was cpsia@yahoo.com

If you aren't planning on complying and think you won't be turned in by "friendly" competition, I think this is the perfect example that there are other sellers out there watching.

In my opinion, if this email were only friendly in nature, they would have at least included links about how to help change this crazy law, let's band forces sort of attitude.

Interesting. Anyone else?

Re: Lurkers out there. Anyone else get an "informative" anonymous email?

GEEZ, PussDaddy, can't you give a person the benefit of the doubt? Okay, so time has gotten away from me as to when I set up the account to sell on etsy. NO, this is not a fake account (or sock...whatever), and no, I do not sell on etsy. I found this forum through a google search while researching CPSIA, found you all to be helpful with information. I THOUGHT everyone on here seemed friendly, and I JOINED you all in the fight to get things changed. I am on everyone's side here. I am not trying to stir things up, make people mad, or turn people in. My name is Kelly, and I sell hair bows on my own website. I do not sell on etsy because my 3 kids and my successful website have not allowed me the time to learn a new system. That's all.

I have been on this forum for nearly a month now (since around the time they dedicated an entire category to CPSIA), and THOUGHT it was friendly. Do you guys not want us non-etsy sellers on here, joining in the fight to get this law amended. If so, I will leave today. However, if you want an extra voice, I would like to stay and get everyone's input and ideas for fighting this.

By the way, I did not go anywhere, I just am on the West Coast and have had a busy morning. I was absolutely appalled at the response, and how hateful the recent posts have been. Does everyone feel this way? Am I completely in the wrong for even being here?

bittybows, emotions are running high, as you can see.

Share your website, and that may help smooth feathers.

I'll add that I have no opinion on the matter at topic here in the thread, I'm just butting in with gratuitous advice.

Re: Lurkers out there. Anyone else get an "informative" anonymous email?

Well, I apologize then. It all seemed ominous and kind of spooky, with an account open so long but then saying you had been here for only a few months, and just finding the forum yet having an account for two years. People are making sock puppets most everyday to come in this section and post dire warnings to people and scare them and freak them out. So I am sorry Kelly.

Re: Lurkers out there. Anyone else get an "informative" anonymous email?

Kelly,

No, you are not at all wrong for being here, and I for one do appreciate anyone trying to get involved. This definitely affects far more people than just the sellers here on Etsy....we are just a very small percentage of those impacted and only a very small voice (even collectively).

I also wanted to say, that you have a wonderful website (a simple google search found it instantly), and I want to congratulate you on your success. It is very clear that you will be greatly impacted by this upcoming legislation, as will many others. I am so sorry that not everyone made you feel welcome to participate in these forum.

Re: Lurkers out there. Anyone else get an "informative" anonymous email?

Thank you for the apology PussDaddy, and for your kind words CogansCreations. It is appreciated! I can see how there are probably some people trying to cause a stir, but assuredly I am not one of them. If I was trying to hide my true identity, I certainly would have picked an ID that was different than my business website name! LOL! Yeah, without digging around I couldn't tell you exactly when I opened the account.

Just a thought, I am pretty confident I am not the only one on here that does not sell specifically on Etsy, but is truly concerned about this law. This has become somewhat of a support group for me, since I am the only one behind my website. Maybe there are others like me that don't have images or items in their store or hearts...that doesn't mean we are bad! : )

PussDaddy, I know you weren't the only one who thought I was trying to cause a stir, and were frustrated by my posting, but I hope the others see this as well and realize the true intent of my being here.

Thanks for reading...

Kelly

Oh I forgot to mention Lizzypops, my website is the same as my screenname, just add .com. I didn't post it earlier because I thought that was against etsy policy.

If this was on the ebay forums this would of been shut down by the mods long ago. I'm glad you got some apologies:)

Hula, unfortunately from my ordinary office jobs in the past...

some people just get a kick out of being nasty.. especially if they can get away with it, and the victim has no recourse to make it stop.

Re: Lurkers out there. Anyone else get an "informative" anonymous email?

My supplies/suppliers are in compliance... I don't need to prove anything.

I'm a disabled person, I don't have young kids at home, I don't own anything of substance, I've made arrangements for my cats (planning "in case of sudden hospitalization"). I'm not particularly afraid of vigilantes at this point.

If I was responsible for underage children, owned a home, or substantial business... I wouldn't have the courage to continue at all. Even with certs on all my components.

US legal system is set up so that the court has to have proof of guilt, not that the accused needs to produce proof of innocence. this law is backwards, and unAmerican.

Re: Lurkers out there. Anyone else get an "informative" anonymous email?

In order to investigate, or arrest any of us, the LAW requires need to have a solid reason to believe we are breaking the law. (random investigation of citizens is not legal.)

Before an arrest is made there has to be some evidence of a crime being committed and some evidence suggesting that person is a suspect.

lol, No, it's all in the Hawaiian fabric that I'm using. You didn't know lead was legal in Hawaii?

Seriously I'm out of here. I can't pass up a sale. :)

Well said! The closer we get to 2.10, though, the more antsy and anxious I'm feeling the threads to be.
