Lurkers out there. Anyone else get an "informative" anonymous email?

Am I the only one who has received a letter informing me of CPSIA? It read...

"Are Your Bows CPSIA Compliant? Do you even know anything about the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act?"

No name, and the address was cpsia@yahoo.com

If you aren't planning on complying and think you won't be turned in by "friendly" competition, I think this is the perfect example that there are other sellers out there watching.

In my opinion, if this email were only friendly in nature, they would have at least included links about how to help change this crazy law, let's band forces sort of attitude.

Interesting. Anyone else?

I've had a lot of orders from overseas ask me if CPSIA will effect my shop but nothing to this extent. Its pretty rediculous that people will stoop this low. We were talking about this in another thread. How did you respond?

My take on that email was someone else being affected by the CPSIA nad doing a GOOD deed by informing others that may not know. They are spreading the word... a wonderful thing.

I believe this to be true because I and MANY others have discussed doing this by sending convos and emails to anyone and everyone just to notify them since SO many people are totally unaware.

I have had a competitor email and almost imply that she will be turning people in if she has to be compliant too. I told her I would not be selling unless it was legal so not to worry about me.

It is so sad to hear that there are people out there waiting for this law to go into effect so they can turn others in. How do they know I haven't had my products tested, anyway??? How in the world will the CSPC handle all of the complaints?

I have read that the consumer and environmental groups that are behind this law have noted the opposition to it on Etsy and they are intending to turn noncompliant sellers in on the anonymous whistle blowers site that is set up by this law....

the fact that it had no links to how to amend the law and so on makes it seem like it was done to intentionally scare someone.

Re: Lurkers out there. Anyone else get an "informative" anonymous email?

I tried to reply, but the address had been cancelled. This was within about 10 minutes of receiving the email.

In some ways, I see why she may have done it. My reply was this...
Yes, we are doing everything we can to make sure we are both compliant in February, and in August. Obviously this will be at a huge expense and change to our way of doing things, especially if it passes in August without any change. May I recommend that if you are going to take the
time to inform other sellers about this, that you also include some information about ways that many of us are trying to request modifications. Maybe a link to a helpful article could be included, for those sellers that do not yet know about it. We are all in this fight together--a fight for our business, as well as a fight to keep our kids safe. Let's band together and not only inform people about this law, but inform them about how they can help make it practical to follow (ie component testing!)

I don't doubt that other sellers are unaware and need to be made aware of this, but I guess my strategy would have been a little different. I would have taken the tune of, "Join us in fighting this, as we are all in this together..."

I have no doubt in my mind that they will do this, that's another reason I'm going to be watching myself and not selling until I'm legal in compliance or the law is amended to let me use my approved fabric and elastic lol

I agree, I think there will be a lot of bitter people turning others in. I have experienced not-so-friendly competition in the past, and don't doubt that this will be the case as well!

Bittybows, You don't have anything in your shop, not do you show any sales. Do you sell on the other e place or someplace else? If you don't how would anyone even know about you? Just curious why you would be singled out.

Bubbletime, it wasn't my direct email address, it was a comment/email posted through my bow website.

FayMaloneDesigns I had the intention of selling on here, but have not had the time to set up. I have a successful bow website of my own, and sell to boutiques. My website is where the person found me. I joined up here on this forum because I found you all to be very educated about this topic, and you all have given me great ideas on how we can fight this together. I hope that is okay! : )

Re: Lurkers out there. Anyone else get an "informative" anonymous email?

I haven't gotten an email yet, but have already decided my baby/toddler bibs are coming off ETSY until CPSIA is 'fixed' or just scrapped. Too many of us are just figuring that the US government does not want us to become capitalists, lol. I'm going to give them to my preggers friends who KNOW my products are not harmful and have used and gifted them for years. Also I bet there's going to be an underground black market on handmade children's products.

Okay, gotcha! I know there are some trolls on the other e site that do some evil things to people, wondered if it was coming from there. Sounds like you have someone who doesn't like you. Sorry about that, this thing has brought out some real nastiness in some people. You are more than welcome to be here!

Re: Lurkers out there. Anyone else get an "informative" anonymous email?

What a crappy thing for someone to do. I think it sounds nasty. It wasn't meant to be helpful at all or, as the original poster pointed out, it would have included links to articles and ways to help get the law amended. Plus, someone obviously went through a bit of trouble to get her e-mail. Had it been from someone trying to "help," why wouldn't the person just have said, "Hey, this is so-and-so, I just didn't know if you were aware that this new law might affect your shop..."
