Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

Should I be offended? I know several sellers were being "funny" and posted some outrageously inflated prices on some of their listings in protest to the whole CPSIA situation... but I received an email from someone in Etsy Admin, basically saying if I am inflating my prices due to the CPSIA issues, I need to edit my listings or they will be deactivated. They pointed out 10 listings in my shop that they were referring to. Here is one of them: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=20312770

First of all... I dont sell children's items, and second of all, I rarely ever have anything in my shop over $20. This is a $10 dish for crying out loud. I was just discussing this with a friend and she said surely Admin has the ability to look at my sales history and see that these are the same pricing levels Ive been selling at since opening my shop last April.

So am I to think that she thinks my work is overpriced and she's calling me out on it? I cant help but feel insulted. If I had something marked several hundred dollars I could understand, but come on!

Ive sent an email asking for more clairfication, but they take forever to respond to stuff like this. Im going to be really ticked off if she goes sin and deactivates a bunch of my listings because she feels they are too pricey.

~sorry... I had to vent!

I don't know why they'd do that. I love that dish. I just favorited it. $10 seems very *not* inflated, to me.

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

re you sure it was from Esty, maybe someone was sending emils as a fraud/
I would contact etsy and chat with them directly to clear things up, Certainly you have nice items and certainly not over prices..
My opinion of course.
Good Luck./

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

Hi MudHutt! As someone who did a few listings with inflated prices, I just want to start out by saying that it wasn't to be "funny". There were a lot of us who were doing it to make a point about how much an item would be if we had to add the testing costs to our products if the CPSIA law went into effect. We were trying to get the word out about the law and get people's attention to help us stop it and it worked (the law has been given a stay for one year to work out the insanity of it.)

THAT BEING SAID :) I am SO confused as to why you would have been sent an email like that - your dish is SO reasonably priced (and darling to boot!). My only thought it that maybe they were doing too many things at once and sent the email to the wrong person. Hopefully, you will hear back soon!!

Also.... I have also favorite-ed the dish - my friend collects cute little dishes and now I have the perfect gift when something comes up!!!

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

yep, it was from Etsy's email address. She pointed out TEN items from my shop so it's not like she just picked one thing. Seriously, Im offended because I guess Im just taking it as "these prices are RIDICULOUSLY high for these items". 2 of the items she pointed out are my top sellers, like this one: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=19727369

I just dont get it.... I guess I'll keep an eye on my listings. The email said any listings with these ridiculous prices after the end of the day Jan 31st will be deactivated. I hope she replies back before then.

whoah. there is so much wrong with this!
1. that's not a childrens item
2. your prices are not high!!
3. Matt said people could continue to list the high priced CPSIA items
4. ETSY HAS NO SAY IN HOW YOU PRICE YOUR ART

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

your most expensive item is $59.00 and you don't have any kids items in the store!
How confused can they be?

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

thanks daisy... sorry if I offended you when I said sellers were inflating prices on listings "to be funny". I just remember seeing a post a while back where someone actually was joking around about posting something like a hairbow for hundreds of dollars. Im sure since then many sellers are taking a stand and getting serious.

Im hoping it was a mistake too, but the fact that she took the time to list TEN of my listings makes me wonder.

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

The content team unfortunately has MANY such "mistakes", there are tons of forum threads about people getting emailed telling them to remove adult items when their shop has been empty for months, or people getting links to someone ELSE'S items and told it's breaking a rule, or people being told to remove links to other selling sites when they have NEVER HAD ANY.

They never seem to overhaul their process or retrain their team to correct these constant boners, instead they will just lock the thread and then not reply to any of your emails.

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

I agree with the others...I see no reason for the email. A misunderstanding somewhere along the line.

BTW...My sil gave my mom one of your Nana dishes and it is awesome!!!!

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

Even the $59 item is totally reasonable considering you get TWELVE items for that price.

the CPSIA listings were in the thousands of dollars. I don't know how any person who is paying attention to their job could get your items confused with CPSIA items.

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

I completely do not understand this. Not even getting into the CPSIA issues, WHY was anyone form etsy telling you how to price you items?

I mean, is that somewhere in the etsy terms that we have to price our items according to some kind of rules they have set?

I'm flabbergasted.

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

Wow, I am shocked here. I buy and trade for your items and I am a thrifty woman. Not to mention, this is NOT a children's item! What the heck? They must have made a mistake!

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

I think it was a mistake too...your items are anything but overpriced, wonderful items at very FAIR pricing, and I have NEVER heard of etsy admin dictating pricing. I think perhaps it was a spammer....anyway good luck, hope you hear from them soon.

I would have thought they sent the email to the wrong person, but the fact that they linked to ten of your items suggests not. Hmm...

Re: Listings with ridiculously inflated prices

This definitely had to be a mistake. I'd contact admin and let them know you think that you received this email in error.

Your pieces are lovely and definitely not overpriced!
