Labeling a Crocheted Item

I've figured out which of my items need labeling and what my labels need to say, but now I need to figure out HOW to label the actual items. I have some crocheted baby hats that need CPSIA lables, and I am trying to figure out the best way to do it. Do iron on lables work with yarn items? Or do I need to get lables that get sewn in, or do hang tags count as labels? Any other crocheters or knitters want to share what they have done for their labels or have any labeling advice?

Re: Labeling a Crocheted Item

I bought some labels from another etsy seller. http://www.etsy.com/listing/47948409/36-custom-printed-cpsia-compliance-or

They came out really nice & she put all the info I needed on them. I hand sew them onto my crocheted items.

It doesn't take me that long to hand sew a lable into my items. Though it does seem like a pain to do sometimes since I figure that things like my crocheted hats the parents will probably take the label off & throw it away.

Re: Labeling a Crocheted Item

A hang tag isn't a permanent label, MelvinBug, so that won't do for CPSIA.

Iron-on probably isn't a good idea: the adhesive may/may not be compliant or exemmpt and besides, the pressure needed to stick it onto a crocheted yarn item probably wouldn't do the looks any good.

I hand-sew mine into knitwear.

I handsew all my labels in. That way I know that they will stay.

Re: Labeling a Crocheted Item

I'm signed in under the wrong shop, but I hand sew mine in usually at the top of the hat if possible so that it won't irritate their little neck. I also bought satin labels so they hopefully will be soft and easy on baby's skin.
