I've been looking at several methods to create my own CPSIA tracking labels. I found most of the helpful info here in these forums and I've tweaked some of the ideas to create a very easy printable label, which I can sew into the seam of my stuffed toys. Just print, cut and sew them in. I've posted full instructions here http://sockmonkey.shopping.officelive.com/labels.aspx and I've also included a template for the labels to make it easier. These are 100% cotton labels printed with ink jet (CMYK) ink printer, so they are CPSIA compliant, no lead or pthalates are in them, so no need to have them tested.

Re: Just want to share my CPSIA handmade label instructions

Thank you, I just realized I had a few items that need to comply with these standards and wasn't sure how I was going to label them aside from embroidery.

Re: Just want to share my CPSIA handmade label instructions

Th9is is in answer to the person asking about printing on used sheets. It will work but it wont be permnament unless you use the treated sheets(Printable fabric) from the store.
I have tried it on muslin and it faded very badly.

Re: Just want to share my CPSIA handmade label instructions

Hi, Just noticed the post from Baby Crochet Shop, I purchased the June Tailor printable fabric in WalMart but it wasn't easy to find. It was back where the crafts are, near the iron on applique's like the iron ons for clothes etc. Maybe ask someone working in that dept where they are. You can always purchase them off the June Tailor online shop too.

Also someone asked about having officelive. That is just what I used, it's basically the same as Microsoft Word, only I don't have Microsoft Word installed on my computer, so I downloaded the Office Live software because it was free. When you download it, it downloads all the software into one, (an excell type software, a microsoft word type and a few others) when you open the software, you'll choose the Office Writer software, that is the Word Processor like Microsoft Word. I think I will get out my old laptop this weekend with Microsoft Word on it and create a template in the .doc format, so it's easier for everyone. I will post the .doc template on my web page.

Re: Just want to share my CPSIA handmade label instructions

Thanks very much for this info & for those of you who discussed the fray factor. Just curious if anyone else works primarily with knitted items (such as hats, mittens, etc) that don't have logical seams or hems to work the labels into? Would these qualify as a case in which a hang tag or package-labeling would be deemed acceptable, even if the item is not reversible?

Re: Just want to share my CPSIA handmade label instructions

I had a hard time find the June Tailor sheets too. But as I was about to give up I found it with the tie dye kits. And it was on clearence $3 a package. So I grabbed the 3 that were left. One thing though. These were called Colorfast Sew-in Inkjet Fabric Sheets. I compared them to the others and didn't see a difference in how they work. Does anybody know?

Re: Just want to share my CPSIA handmade label instructions

I checked 2 Walmarts and Target to find them. I found them in the bigger Walmart in the craft section, but they didn't have them in our smaller Walmart. :)

Re: Just want to share my CPSIA handmade label instructions

Abbsquake - I crochet my items and they don't have a seam. I just hand sewed them on to a tight row using teeny tiny stitches. Not fun, but effective. :)
