Yes, by and large. Especially the last statement on the 1st page. Do understand at the time in 2011 there was no SBM, discussions used examples based on large scale business practices. If I was making clothing for Walmart, and I had to keep tracking labels for runs of clothing, then I probably would incorporate a difference in run number when thread from different manufacturers was used. Making 1000 of something and then finding out that 200 were made with defective thread that breaks easity or the dye runs would be important. The tracking number with batch run and cohort information would have great meaning to the company. It has limited meaning to a small batch manufacturer who buys there supplies in small quantities and uses one bag at a time of beads or hair clips.
This is why I try to tell makers to have good record keeping and to keep receipts and purchase orders . Your tracking label dating code coupled with your record keeping needs to lead you to the components that went into each product on each date that you finish something. For example you make 100 red bows with black rhinestone centers. You finish 50 bows and run out of the black rhinestones. You need to purchase more, but your supplier is out of stock and you purchase them from someone else. You are in a hurry and do not get a certificate of conformity for the new order of rhinestones. A concerned mom whose daughter is on the school Spirit Team has the bows scanned for lead in an annual XRF safety check Her daughter's bows fail the test, and have too much lead in them
How are you the maker of the bows going to identify the bad bows from the good bows? This is where your tracking label and record keeping come in to play. You need to recall the 50 bows made with the bad rhinestones only. You also need to contact the CPSC and the vendor who sold you the rhinestones. If you used them in anything other than the 50 red bows sold to the school, then your records should tell you the information who you need to contact and replace their bows.
Anything else in that discussion that you have questions about?
