How do I explain this?

I contacted a fabric company and asked if they can provide CPSIA certification documents for me and I got the following reply:

"Thank you for the email
We do produce the fabrics so we do not provide CPSIA documents, sorry"

I'm sure I didn't explain it very well because I'm still struggling to understand the ins and outs of the new CPSIA rules. If they produce the fabric then they should be able to provide a certificate, right? How do I explain this to them so that I can continue to buy fabric from them for my baby blankets?

Re: How do I explain this?

Perhaps they meant to say do not? Are they importers?

Re: How do I explain this?

Fabric stores usually say they are not selling to children under 12 so they don't have to supply certification. As far as CPSIA is concerned - fabric is now exempt from testing. So unless you have a fabric with a sparkly gold/silver thread in it, you don't need the certification.

Thanks for your replies!
Meredith, the fabric is USA made, so they don't import it.
SewFunDollClothes, I didn't realize fabric was now exempt! There's so much to keep up with - thanks for your help!
