Have to keep fighting!

Here is a link that I came across today and thought I would pass it on. I live in Kansas now and I am contacting my Senators but I am originally from Texas so this was a light of hope for me today.

Not only do we need to continue to contact our senators about this issue, we also need to keep contacting those who are (or seem to be) on our side. The more we talk to them, hopefully the more they will talk to their counterparts and hopefully get something done.

(hopefully I can get this link to work)

Re: Have to keep fighting!

Thanks for the link! It is good to know that someone in the Senate would like to support us and make the necessary changes. I hope that she can influence the chair of that committee who is presenting his party's hard line of pro-CPSIA as written.

Write to your Senators. Write to your Congressmen. Suggest that when it is time for them to run for re-election you intend to campaign for their opponent if CPSIA is still as it stands now.

Re: Have to keep fighting!

I sent another email to one of my Senators today...he is on the committee that is overseeing the nomination of the new director. I will continue to keep writing all of them. I am even strongly thinking of sending a note to Senator Hutchison (the Texas one from the link above) and thanking her for her support and asking that she continue the fight for all of us. I don't know what it could hurt.

Thanks for the link! It's good to know that some of our elected officials see the need to rework parts of it to bring them more in line with common sense!

Re: Have to keep fighting!

I received a letter back today from KS Senator Brownback (received in the mail after I had already emailed him again today! LOL) Basically he told me again about the law but the bottom paragraph goes like this:

Protecting our children and the products to which they are exposed is of utmost importance. We do not want our laws, however, to unduly impact or burden small businesses. Small businesses and resellers provide valuable services to our nation's consumers and are the sort of establishments we should be protecting. With that goal in mind, I sent a letter to the CPSC urgins them to grant an exemption for off-highway and all-terrain vehicles. I also cosponsored an amendment with Senator Jim DeMint (SC) modifying the CPSIA to better balance safety with a commonsense business approach. I will continue to look for safe, expeditious solutions to the problems created by the CPSIA.

So that sounds kind of hopeful too. I did write him again today. I will continue to contact whomever I can.

Re: Have to keep fighting!

Anyone up to sending information to the talk show hosts again? In our area it is Armstrong and Getty, but getting other syndicated shows to pick it up would be a huge step. Even local news stations might be interested. It wouldn't hurt to email or call to ask if they are interested.

Re: Have to keep fighting!

I wrote Senator Hutchison when this all started and got what I thought was a positive letter. Glad she is following through(maybe I did make a difference). My Representative Joe Barton has also co sponsored a bill to amend the CPSIA.

I think this will be changed, just not as fast as we would wish.

Keep writing.

Re: Have to keep fighting!

Slowly but surely maybe we are being heard. I hope so anyway! But we can't give up yet...we have to keep fighting. I am going to keep on those who have said they are for amending it as well because maybe the more we talk to them, maybe they will keep trying too.

Re: Have to keep fighting!

I apologize if this post is seen as spam. I just posted in the promo forum about sharing information and making our voices heard. The topic is CPSIA Email Campaign

Re: Have to keep fighting!

Does anyone have a good/eloquent draft of a letter to send to your senators? I would like to send one, but don't want to come across as an idiot trying to avoid the law. If someone has one they wouldn't mind sharing, could you please post it?
Thanks!

Re: Have to keep fighting!

I write to all of them including to my county executives also my state legislator and state senators. on pretty much a daily basis. Also I twitter the president and have emailed him too. I dont use a form letter, I usually ask them diffrent questions for example to the local legislator and state senator I ask them how they will deal with the increase in unemplyment, loss of sales taxes. Congress and senate I usually ask them how theyt will deal with the loss in buisness economy and if they can sponsor or co-sponsor a bill to amend so that it is fair to all of us. Good way to get them to reply is to look at their web page on whjat they want to accomplish while in office, ie. lower taxes promoting small buisness, controling large corporations, government spending. Tell them how it will effect you and everyone in small business. I dont send form letters they have read 1000 times. Tell it from your heart and soul.

Re: Have to keep fighting!

And don't put CPSIA is the first sentences. That's all they read and then send the standard form letters out.
