Has anyone used this fabric?

I'm making some "Color & Wash" plush toys for a niece's birthday party and am experimenting with different fabrics to use. I found this ( http://www.joann.com/rubber-sheeting-white/zprd_01491315a/ ) at the store today and am curious to see if it will work. It's the type of fabric that's used for baby bibs and protecting mattresses of bed wetters. The fabric information says that it's 100% cotton, but what about the plastic sort of lining in the center? Shouldn't there be some information there about that? If it works out well, I might create more Color & Wash plush toys to sell, but I'm concerned about not having all the correct information for labeling and CPSIA regulations.

Re: Has anyone used this fabric?

I don't know how it could be called rubber sheeting and still be listed as 100% cotton, so, I'm with you on that. What does it say on the end of the bolt?, or are you just looking on line? Ask for the phone number of Joann's corp office. That you need to speak to someone in the buying office that handles Utility fabrics, and that can tell you exactly what is in this. That you need to use it for children and you need to know if it safe. Joann's coporate office is located at 5555 arrow Road, Hudson, Ohio 44236. The FTC information is supposed to be on the end of the bolt..

Re: Has anyone used this fabric?

I saw it first in store and it says the same thing, 100% cotton, nothing else but wash and care info. Thank you for the information. I hope I can get more information about this material.

Re: Has anyone used this fabric?

I am not sure on the content and safety of this fabric but I do know it loses it waterproofing capabilities after a few washes. I used to use it to protect my kids' changing table and a few washes later it is pretty much useless.

As Bev mentioned, 100% cotton called Rubber Sheeting, hmmm.

Re: Has anyone used this fabric?

Thank you for the info, Correen. I don't expect the plushies will get washed real frequently (if ever), but it's safer not to assume that with something made to be "Color & Wash". I wish I knew what kind of fabric is used for those kinds of toys. Honestly, I don't care so much about how washable they are as long as they are easy for the kids to color on. I used felt on my first prototype, and the fabric kept pulling and sticking to the marker tip. Not fun. Any ideas?

Re: Has anyone used this fabric?

maybe that stuff they line diapers with - PUL I think? I don't know if any of it is CPSIA compliant (though it must be, some of it anyway), but I'm pretty sure it washes well. I also don't know how easy it would be to write on, but I am thinking maybe it would be okay. You might order just a tiny bit of it from somewhere.

Have your thought about Babyville? http://www.joann.com/babyville-pul-fabric-white-pul-solid/zprd_11117264a/

Joann's will allow you to get a small sample to try it.
