Had an idea to get the word out - what do you think

If lawmakers are going to keep giving us the run around than why not continue to educate people who are unaware of CPSIA or think they are excluded? I was thinking about going through the phone book for my area and calling all the bike shop owners to let them know how they are affected. I honestly don't know if bikes really have lead or not but per the CPSIA, it doesn't matter. If it's marketed to anyone under 12 than it must be tested. I think I'll do the same with other types of shops too that aren't clothing or toys. I guess the point is that even though they aren't in our "handmade" category maybe the more people we can educate, the more people start screaming, masses grow and maybe lawmakers will rethink CPSIA...? What do you think? Do you think it will just deter focus from the OOAK fight? I'd be interested in what you guys think.

Yes the tires have some lead in them. . . but I don't know any tire eating kids! LOL Both the Wall Street Journal and CNN had stories in the last 48 hours about the CPSIA. . . . so it is picking up so steam. Even a class action law suit now from businass owners. . .

I was wondering the same thing myself. There are a lot of small shops around here, book shops, resale, crafts, etc. I was thinking about drafting a letter and sending it to some of these places. I doubt the people that run them have heard of this law, and would probably be interested in it. The paper is printing a letter to the editor that I wrote about the matter, and I'm hoping that will call some local attention to the matter.

I don't know, mamaslittlemonkeys. My son put anything he could get his little hands on until he was well past 2 years old. And I have pics of him wearing his diaper on his head. ;-)

There is also possibility for there to be lead in the paint on the bike. I'd say it's a good idea. They may not make the bikes, but they will have to figure out what to do with their current inventory, and I'm sure the manufacturer will be passing on the costs of testing on future bikes produced.

I started writing emails to celebrities that I've heard say that they are vintage toy collectors. To me, this was another segment of the population likely to get involved. I'll try anything to help!

Bikes do have to be tested. Let the bike stores know but expect to be called crazy. No one knows about this law - retailers do not know (other than the large chains). Tell the little shops in your area that they must destroy their inventory on Feb. 10. See what they call you.

I have looked at many toys and children's clothes in stores in the past few weeks - NONE have certificates. Under the law, all of this must go. Want to bet it is all still there on Feb. 15th.

I'm going to do it. I just think so many people look at this law like it only applies to toys. This affects everyone. Yep, I'm sure people will just think I'm crazy (which isn't a new concept - HA)

On the note about product still being on shelves, I hope so but if the vendors that I carry product for can provide XRF or paperwork certification I'll probably be sending off one of each to the lady that does XRF testing for $5.00 per scan so that I can keep the product for sale, legally. It sucks.

Most people won't believe us just because we tell them. We need to be prepared with written literature that refers them to online sources. Once they see that they will be affected, then they'll join the outcry.

I want to write jenny mccarthy just not sure how..she's real big into natural, organic stuff bc of her son and I am willing to bet she tries to buy natural, handmade items? No clue how to reach her though.
