The issue of whether or not people can make items, then give them to friends/family or trade them with other folks came up in a thread earlier today. Does anyone have any links to show whether or now this is possible? I've heard it stated that it's okay and also that it's not.
There's so much confusion on this point.
As far as I can tell, you must be a manufacturer (i.e. someone who is making an item with the intent to sell it) for the law to apply to the things you make. A mother making a dress for her daughter or a grandmother knitting a hat for her grandson are not "manufacturers" in that they are not making the items to sell them. Wouldn't the law not be applicable in these situations?
