Feel dumb, just stumbled on this forum

I read the rules but am still confused.
I make wooden trucks which are smallish (around 8"x3"x3").

The toys are all wood. Do I need to get these tested and try to put a label on them? There is not much room for a label.

Thanks!

I think that if the wood is TOTALLY 100% UNFINISHED then you do not need to test. However, you may need small parts testing...Also, you will need labels. All products made for children need CPSIA tracking labels. Check out the forums for "FTC and CPSIA labels"...you will find lots of info. there.

If you use any type of coating or sealant on the wood then yes, you will need test results fro that.

Ken, I think your trucks are terrific. Get a brand made for the underside of your trucks for your cpsia label. If you want to put a sealer on your wood, you need to use a totally natural product.

Any surface coating you put on unfinished wood (that is a toy), will have to be tested by an accredited (by CPSC) 3rd Party Testing lab. The sealer, finish, paint, stain, etc. needs tested. The lab will provide you with an analysis report so you can type up a Certificate of Conformity for your trucks. The branding iron will work, with your business name and place of manufacture and then get a date stamp to stamp date of manufacture.

I thought they excluded from testing bee's wax, and other things like that.

I believe bee's wax would be exempt as it is a food grade product. Using bees wax as a sealer may prove to be a bit sticky on the wood unless used in conjunction with the wood lathe.
