Do I have to worry about CPSIA?

Hello everyone!
I've just found out, reading the forum, that for selling children's products one needs to comply with some specific regulations. I had no idea about this as I thought these were not applied to handmade products.
I'm not in the US, I'm from Portugal, do I have to do a small batch manufacturing application? Can I even do one from outside the US? I don't understand how this works.

I also don't know if any of my items would need to have any special labels or not. I mostly do accessories for baby products storage like diaper bags etc, and nursery decorations. The product that concerns me the most is the burp cloth I have listed now because it's the one that a baby can really use.

I would really appreciate some advice, please. This is all new and very confusing to me.

Maria,

Since Portugal is part of the EU, you will also need to comply with the children's safety regulations of the EU. Great Britain, The United States, Canada and Australia all have children's safety regulations. These aren't suggestions, they are mandatory laws for all sellers of children's products.

If you want to sell around the world you have to 1. comply with the EU laws, and 2, comply with any differences that each Country may have. Generally they are quite similar

Yes, you may sign up for the USA CPSIA small batch manufacturer exemptions. If you do, you may take advantage of the exemptions. It's free and easy to do. That will help you sell your products in the United States.
