Consequenses??

I've tried to read up on the CPSIA and FTC here in the forum and now my head is starting to spin...

What are the consequenses if you for example sell a piece of childrens jewellry or clothing without any kind of labels?? Do you get your nose pinched, do you have to pay a fine, go to jail or will I be sued for everything I own??

Any difference if you are american or european messing things up?

Honestly, I'm not sure I want to sell internationally anymore, just keeping up with regulations in my own country seems to take enough of my time...

But you don't have a Shop yet..so just don't list items for children under the age of 12 when you decide to open a Shop here..

If you're planning on selling things here in the states it is probably best to do things exactly by the book. If you don't you leave yourself very vulnerable and open to be sued. Nobody really wants to run a risk like that considering that some people will sue for anything and everything. :0) I would rather have that extra layer of protection.

Its honestly not as hard as you think to label your items. As long as you are using exempt from testing materials it is just a matter of getting the labels and putting them on the items. Chances are they will just get cut off by mom once she gets the item, but better to be safe than sorry.

It might be worth writing to the CPSC to find out. I wonder how customs handles importing items to the US from small businesses.

I guess it does look pretty stupid that I am monopolizing this section, lol. Just trying to not give the sock what they wanted....interesting that the thread was posted in CPSIA to get stuck right where it is.

I find this all fascinating, back to lurking now.
