Can you mail untested after the date?

Can you still mail untested items after the date? I mean if by definition of the law they are hazardous until proven through testing then you can't even mail to you friends or family can you??? What do you say when the post office asks if there is anything hazardous?? I wouldn't want to mess with the post office!

Honestly does anyone know? Does anyone work for the post office?

No, it will be considered "hazardous" material and you cannot mail it if it is not in compliance with the CPSIA law.

well some people will say no because they want to say no, not because its true. Yes you can still mail stuff! I can still send things over seas and sell to other countries as long as I comply with their laws. I can also box up a product and ship it to my self. It would be as simple as asking your PO person though, take in a sample of your stuff and ask if you can still mail these. Don't be hurt if they laugh. lol I'm pretty sure they wouldn't know about the law, mine didn't and they thought I was being silly.

I disagree. The law is intended for manufactures that sell their items for profit. If you buy material and make a blanket for your niece and mail it to her, you should be able to because it is a gift not a sale. The grandmas in this country are going to be in trouble if they cannot send a handmade christmas gift to their grandkids.

oh come one. you said it your self "hazardous", no need for quotes if it was really hazardous. If I list rice, fabric, ribbon and thread on a package going overseas it will never be marked hazardous! This is just getting silly now in my opinion.

Unless the postal service is going to be personally opening and inspecting my packages, you can be sure I will be mailing them. In fact, somehow I highly doubt that my local postal worker would have the first clue that all of a sudden it's illegal to send a baby blanket through the mail. It's completely insane. Our products are NOT HAZARDOUS MATERIALS!!!! Lead free product + no testing does NOT equal lead ridden product!

Exactly! You can't say my products are hazardous just because I didn't test. I would need to test and be above the levels for them to make them hazmat and take them away from me. Besides...its only for kids under 12. How do they know who you are mailing it to???

Well this is why I asked the question it seems so ridculous that a baby blanket I might make for my niece or nephew I couldn't send. I should ask my local post office I am sure I will get a good chuckle!!

I think Ozarks point is that in the wording of this la, it doesn't only say these items can't be sold. It says they can't be distributed. Some may interpert that to mean sending to relitives. If it was only selling items, charities wouldn't be affected, and they are. I can see why it's a concern for people no matter how stupid it sounds to others.

yes, send away. Its not hazmat. Like the whole things, innocent until proven guilty!

after feb 12 "reasonable testing" even if that means "reasonable belief your items are safe" your items are legal to ship by USPS.
(Not likely to endanger postal workers in any case)

for example, if someone takes all my pain pills at once it will probably kill them. However, I can order my medication through the mail, and it's fine.

after the august requirements change... I think our kids items are still not what USPS is worried about. (it's not a bomb, industrial chemicals, or anthrax...)

ASK a your post office though, just to be safe...and maybe enlist them too. (what happens to postal rates if they lose so many of us shipping toys, and baby clothes.)

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm simply telling you why this law is so stupid...I AGREE with you, but the way the law is written it IS going to be illegal to send something you have "sold" (which in and of itself will be against the law) through the USPS if it is not in compliance with that law....please quit acting as if I am an idiot, I'm not....just because you don't feel it's wrong to do so doesn't mean that's the way the law is written.....

There is a large poster in my post office that has pictures of items that are "hazardous" - I can't wait to see how long that poster becomes if they have to list every single thing that could "appeal" to a child under 12.
