Can I use beaded eys on my product for babies?

My products are not a toy, but since they are for babies to interact with, I'm wondering if it's okay to use beads. Thanks in advance.

Your stuff is cute but it looks like a toy to me, and one of the problems with this law is that it is up for interpretation. Since your stuff is marketed for children you will need to foolow the rules set forth by the CPISA which inlcudes using only exempt items OR getting the test results from your suppliers on the items that are not exempt. You will also have to follow the labeling requirements of the CPSIA as well. If you use beads you will also have to have a warning about small parts and the beads will need to be tested unless they are unfinished wood beads....
Good Luck!

Beaded eyes, sewn on plastic button eyes and the like are a definite no-no for not only babies but for children, too. If you are making stuff for little ones you should be using safety eyes or like I do, felt hand sewn on. I worry so much about plastic pieces coming off that I won't do anything but embroidered features, painted features (using nontoxic paint) or felt which is sewn securely all around. My advice is don't take a chance.

I'm not sure I understand the difference between a toy and something a baby interacts with.

If a baby/young child is going to have access to it, then no beaded eyes.

i wouldn't use beads, buttons, or anything that's sewn on that fits thru a toilet paper tube.

safety eyes are attached in a different way... that prevents the wearing down of threads.

it's just a good rule of thumb... not to sew anything on your toys that could pose a choking hazard.
