CPSIA

I've been reading into some of the threads about FTC, Care label and CPSIA. I went into the website and read some information about the laws, but I'm a little confused and discouraged .Can anyone help me on what I should look at first?
Thank you

Re: CPSIA

Hi Vicky,

Have you registered as a small batch manufacturer? Do that first. Then go through the supplies you use. Are they exempt materials? Cotton, polyester, nylon, elastic, ribbon and many others are exempt.

Your diaper cakes themselves are for mom so don't worry about anything that is holding them together. The individual baby items within them are already marketed for children so you should be good there.

If you are using snaps on your bibs you will want to go to your supplier and get their certification that their products have been tested. They are not required, but many of them have the products tested. If they don't, then find a new supplier.

Now take a breath!

Labels will be the next thing on your list. For sure your bibs will need labels and your hats.

Re: CPSIA

I'm going to register as small business ASAP. For the bibs I use Velcro closure, is that exempt? My baby hats and bibs need what type of label. Is the care label? Thank you so much for your help.

Re: CPSIA

I need to leave, but real quick I think your hats are exempt from FTC labels, but still need the cpsia tracking label. Bibs would need the information from both. Also it looks like you make your baby blankets in your diaper cakes, so they need labels too.

Re: CPSIA

It just keeps coming up as I get into it more. I have another question regarding the batting and interfacing?

I have Poly-fil batting that is polyester between my bibs. How do I use that as FTC label. If the fabric is 100% cotton, Do I put it as other for the poly-fil batting?

Interfacing how to I put it as a percentage in my FTC label?

Thank you

Re: CPSIA

linings that are not used for warmth, do not need to be listed. If you were making a jacket that you used the polyfil for insulation, then that you would list it as : outer layer, Cotton, lining, polyester, filling, polyester batting.

Re: CPSIA

All children's products regardless of what they are must have a CPSIA tracking label on them. Is it a poly coil zipper or a metal coil zipper? Who makes it?
