CPSIA--definition of "hangtags"?

I just want to get something clarified in my own head, wondering if anyone can answer this for me...the labeling regulations state that hangtags are not allowed as a place where we can put tracking info on our items because it's not "permanently fixed" to the item. By hangtags do they mean something like the size label on the collar of a Tshirt? From the reactions of a lot of sellers it seems many think so. When I read hangtag I think of something like the paper labels on items in stores attached to the item with a plastic thread. It seems to me something like a size label on a shirt would be considered permanently fixed, since it's sewn on.

Vendors or lovers of handmade children items please go to http://www.change.org/ideas/view/save_handmade_toys_from_the_cpsia
and vote, so Obama will discuss this problem if we vote for it! He will discuss 10 things and right now this is only listed at 8. We need more voters to make sure this is discussed!!! Lets make a difference instead of just talking about it!

Re: CPSIA--definition of "hangtags"?

Ruths Creations - good question. I think that the general labelling requirements held for clothing will apply to this as well. So a sewn in label would be considered a "permanent label". Just my opinion. I agree with your assessment that a "hang tag" is a paper label attached to items with a plastic barb.

Of course, I haven't seen a definition on the CPSC website, so I'm not 100% sure.

3Hands2Hold - I'm sorry, I just have to say it. PLEASE stop spamming every thread. I *know* you want to help but once or twice is enough!

Yeah that's what I thought Bugga....would be nice if the CPSC would clarify that. Wasn't someone compiling a list of questions to ask the CPSC about CPSIA? Requesting a definition of hangtag would be a good idea. Good grief it's quarter to 2 in the morning!! I've been on the computer reading CPSIA info since about 6pm, I'd better get to bed!

BuggaLove, I have been emailing people all day and contacting people. I want to make a difference and not just talk about what should be done or could have been done or try to be a lawyer and make out what I think the new law reads. Unlike yourself not everyone reads every thread and many selling are unware that they will soon be unable to sell their kids used clothing at a yard sell and will have to close up their etsy shop!

Bobbinalong had a thread that was an ongoing list for her Senator. Maybe that's the one you're referring to?

I'll add it to my list of questions to ask the CPSC next time I speak to them.

3Hands2Hold - I appreciate that. But really, it's enough in the forum threads. If you want to make a difference, there are other ways. Beleive me, I appreciate the effort but you have done PLENTY here in the forums.
