Hi! I know with elections tomorrow I'm late in asking this, but I thought it would be a good idea to pool our information about how candidates handled the issue of the CPSIA. I know nearly everyone voted for it originally, but some politicians later fought to change it, while others fought to block those changes. Also, many of you wrote your congressman and senators and got responses. It would be nice to share what you learned from these as well.
My representative, Chet Edwards, responded to my letter about the CPSIA with a letter full of self-congratulatory language about the accomplishment of this bill, and of his other work on helping small businesses, without really addressing my concerns.
Here's a quote from my dad "Vote the bums out" I'm in Kansas and Jerry Moran live in my town, so I will be sending him a letter after he's elected as our new senator:)
I doubt that any politician will touch changing this law with a 10 foot pole - they would be afraid of being seen as allowing lead to intrude into children's products. If only they knew of the more terrible metals being used in some 3rd world countries and shipped here.
Jim DeMint was trying to get something done about this but w/an ALL Progressive White House, Senate & House, there was nothing he could do but, now, that things have changed, maybe, email him. Helene
They don't have to oust the whole law. This is one of those "Unintended consequences" things, like so much in that Obamacare. The law was supposed to keep lead from China from coming into this country for our kids to chew on, NOT to stop people like us from sewing/knitting, etc. things for kids. Helene
It's time to contact the new congresspersons to see if there can be any relief for the small handmade business owner who uses supplier certifications with regard to the CPSIA regulations.
well the only good thing is that this committee passes into Rep control. Although if one can believe Waxman was voted in again. What the heck is wrong with Calif???? and I say this as a member of a family that arrived in Ca if 1918 and I'm the only one who fled the weirdo state in 1993. I can't believe they voted in Jerry Brown Jr.!! That man drove Calif in to the ground years ago. The total dope head, and I do mean dope head...
I'm all for extremely stringent laws like this. I'm more than willing to comply with all of it. However, they should just make it standard practice that ALL manufacturers have to comply with all their products! What's the point in putting lead in some things and having to make special batches without it? Don't blame this inconvenience on Democrats. Blame it on manufacturers.
