As business owners, we all have the responsibility to know the CPSIA law and to judge how it affects the products we, as individuals, make and sell. And then take measures to correct our products.

By going to the CPSC website, opening the Guidelines, everything we need to know is pretty much explained.
http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/smbus/cpsiasbguide.html

I used CONTROL and click on this link to open it. Not sure if you will need to.

If you click the various parts, you can get answers. If we don't take the time to read it, know what is in it, and then write letters to Congress, the media, etc., the letters will appear to contain false information and will be ignored.

I am still seeing questions, statements in threads that are not true. If sellers will only read through this Guideline, we will become a much more informed group. An informed group will have a better chance of getting changes to this law passed.

Re: CPSIA: The Guidelines - Please Read Them

I have read all the list and I still have a question. Table B states that "Dyed or undyed textiles (cotton, wool, hemp, nylon, etc)" are exempt. Does dyed include printed fabrics or not?

Re: CPSIA: The Guidelines - Please Read Them

I think there is a place on the Guidelines where you can pose a question to the CPSC. Worth asking them?

Re: CPSIA: The Guidelines - Please Read Them

I just read the whole thing. Looks like as long as the item is for anyone over 12, it's OK to sell. I was encouraged to see that old things - like books manufactured before 1985 are OK as long as you call them collectible and not intended for use by a child.

Once you read it, it gives you an insight into what we can and can't do. I think our next big challenge is the labeling. How do you put a label, one that they are asking for, onto a bootie? Or two booties? I cannot figure that one out.

Table B is just for lead and not for phthalates, right?

Re: CPSIA: The Guidelines - Please Read Them

phthalates won't be found in Fabric, only plastic components - it's a soft-maker.

Re: CPSIA: The Guidelines - Please Read Them

Thank you! I recently closed my shop because of the CPSIA law. This helps me to decide what is ok to sell. For example I feel pretty confident some of my ponyholders would not be considered primarly for children 12 and under- while others would.

Re: CPSIA: The Guidelines - Please Read Them

Thanks for the info. I do have one question, did anyone see or know of Polyfill stuffing being in there as okay to use? I read through it a couple of times, did I miss it?

Re: CPSIA: The Guidelines - Please Read Them

I don't honestly know. However, on this Guideline page, there is a place where you can ask any question and they will respond. Perhaps worth a try. Let us know.
